The Girls Top 160 Invitational Camp hosted by John Lucas is an invite only individual showcase for elite high school girls’ basketball players both domestically and internationally. The camp is a 2-day event composed of high intensity skill sessions, extremely advanced competitive drills that focus on developing players for collegiate and professional play, skill-analytic assessments and organized games. The camp will not only test the physical demands necessary for the game but also the mental capability of each player to handle the added pressures. We were in the house to catch all the action and here are some of the top players in the class of 2024.
Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL (Essence)
Turner put on a passing clinic throughout the 2 day event, consistently making the right pass in transition and displayed an unselfish brand of basketball. She was able to beat defenders off the dribble and get to the rim with ease. She plays with a level of confidence that matches her talent and is always ready to compete no matter who the matchup is. She graded 24th overall in combine testing on lane agility test.
Danielle Carnegie (Essence)
Carnegie is a special talent! She is a dynamic ballhandler with the ball in her hands and can score from all 3 levels with a quick release from 3! She competed on defense & was clearly in elite shape as her top level conditioning was apparent on day as she looked to get stronger and faster when others were struggling to finish.
Kayla Nelms Kayla Nelms 6'1" | PF Miami Country Day | 2024 State FL ( Miami Suns )
Nelms showed her versatility and ability to inside and out. Her concentrated effort on improving conditioning has paid off as there was no drop off in performance after the workout portion of the camp and she got it done on both ends all weekend. She scored inside and knocked down the ball, rebounded well, and held her own on defense vs some of the top post players in attendance. She graded 14th overall in combine testing on lane agility test.
Emely Rodriguez Emely Rodriguez 6'1" | SF Central Pointe Christian | 2024 State FL ( Miami Suns )
Rodriguez showed flashes of being one of the top players in the gym, at 6’0 she can guard 1-5 position and can score from all 3 levels. She got to the rim vs top competition with ease and finished through contact consistently. Her combination of her body, length, height, athleticism and skill make her a major stock riser being a newcomer to the exposure scene with a ton of potential.
Eris Lester Eris Lester 5'10" | SF Montverde Academy | 2024 State FL ( Miami Suns )
Lester athleticism and skill stood out amongst a talented group of players both days. Her weekend started in the combine testing when she put up a camp leading 27 inch vertical in the combine and ended up grading #1 overall in all tests. She hit the game winning jumper in the 3 on 3 championship and showed flashes all weekend of being a 3-level scorer vs good competition.
Athena Thompson ( Cal Stars )
Don’t let Thompson size fool you, she is built ROCK solid and has the explosiveness to blow by any defender. She knocked down jumpers consistently off the dribble when given space and when she got to the rim had a variety of finishes to maneuver around bigger defenders. She graded 2nd overall in the camp in the combine testing showcasing her elite athleticism. We also got a sneak peak on her IQ when she was asked in front of the camp about who her favorite WNBA player was and gave an in depth answer on Ari McDonald. She was able to identify 3 things she had improved on from college to the WNBA!
Kyndal Walker (Team Takeover)
Walker was 1 of what felt like 20 Team Takeover players in attendance and stood out all weekend with her crafty handle and ability to make plays with the ball in her hands. She got to the basket at will, breaking down defenders off the dribble, made a handful of nice passes in transition, and knocked down the 3 ball. Walker stood out for competitiveness and was willing to do whatever to come out on top! She graded #9 overall in combine testing.
