This week was the opening week, so only a limited number of teams were able to come together. Still, several players distinguished themselves and earned a spot on the McBrook All League Team.
MVP: Amaya Smith Amaya Smith PG Powers Catholic | 2024 State MI | Lake Fenton | 2024
This kid was an absolute bully on defense. She spent the entire day guarding the other team’s best perimeter player and flat shut people down. She led a very balanced scoring attack. Her ball movement was great, whether it was a connecting pass or one for an assist. Overall, she was the best two way player today.
Chelsea Bishop Chelsea Bishop 5'10" | SG Grand Blanc | 2024 State MI | Grand Blanc | 2024
Chelsea gets better every time I watch her. In the past, she has been a hard nosed driver and cutter. Today, she continued the same offensive pressure while adding the defensive chops I have heard so much about. She absolutely terrorized some very capable ball handlers to the tune of six steals- most of which were swiped from a dribbler. She led her team in rebounding and provided several sparks as Grand Blanc fell behind.
Liv Linden Liv Linden 5'7" | SG Hartland | 2023 State MI | Hartland | 2023
It was no shock to me that Liv led her team in scoring on the day. What shocked me is that she only had one assist. I wish there was a stat for blown assists because Liv had at least eight perfect set ups that were not completed. She remained patient until the score was tied up, which resulted in a scoring spree that put the game safely out of reach.
Ellie Nauhaus | Clio | 2025
She did her best to keep her team in the game and quickly became the focus on the her opponent, which opened up her teammates. Before she was double teamed, Ellie scored 11 first half points and grabbed several rebounds. She was active on defense and had a nice block on a taller opponent. I’ve watched Ellie play a couple of times, and this was her best performance yet.
Sarah Rekowski Sarah Rekowski 6'3" | C Hartland | 2024 State MI | Hartland | 2024
Unstoppable. Sarah is a beast in the paint and finishes through contact. She is a very athletic 6’2+ kid that covers a lot of ground on rebounding. She has natural timing for shot blocking and can become an elite rim protector. I loved her outlets: the ball gets up the court in a hurry.
