Not many kids have the confidence to take and make shots as Kay does when she has space. Going back to this summer, whenever I saw her and her 16u Iowa Prep team, I’d be excited to see if she’d get into a rhythm and make an absurd amount of shots. Kay is an excellent off-ball guard because she moves off the ball at a high level and cuts extremley hard to find open pockets of space in the opposing defense.
Adalyn Long Adalyn Long 5'9" | SG Washington | 2026 State IA
Usually, it’s hard for someone with Long’s size to find consistent success on both ends of the floor, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well she operated against older kids who’ve been playing against high school talent for years. Long has an arsenal of moves to create space. The 2026 guard used a reveres pivot to create space around the basket a few times. She finds ways to be effective wherever I’ve seen her the last few months, and Saturday was no different.
Josie Potts Josie Potts 5'6" Dubuque | 2023 IA
I first saw Potts in Nebraska last May, and I saw her hit loads of shots. The more I saw her play, the more I saw how multi-faceted her game is. She is the definition of a combo-guard. Potts can create off the dribble for her teammates, shoot consistently on the perimeter, defend multiple positions, and exudes confidence on the floor. I can imagine every coach has trusted her on the floor because she makes good decisions and sees the game well. The Dubuque native will make a college coaching staff very happy.
Zoe Ackerman Zoe Ackerman 5'7" | SG Spirit Lake | 2024 State IA
Watching Ackerman digest her surroundings with the ball in her hands is fun. You can see her mind working in the halfcourt, and she makes good plays happen. I also love how Ackerman shoots the ball. There aren’t many moving parts, it’s compact and repeatable, and she has the results to back her up. The Sibley-Ocheyedan guard was impressive because the rising junior did what she’s always done. She wasn’t flashy and didn’t do anything in a superhuman fashion. She made the right play every time she got the ball.
