The Cougars finished two games ahead of runner-ups Monticello and made it to the state quarterfinals, where they lost to Central Lion by two points at the Wells Fargo Center. Now, let’s meet some of the returners in this conference.
Ka’Lynn DeShaw
The 5-foot-11 forward had an excellent junior season for the Bellevue Comets. De’Shaw is the leading returning scorer for her team this season after scoring 13.1 points as a junior. The now senior also led the Comets in rebounding by a wide margin with 7.2 rebounds per contest. Over three of those rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor, leading to at least as many second chance opportunities each game.

Last season, the now sophomore nearly averaged a double-double as she led her team to a 14-5 conference record. The 5-foot-10 wing showed that she could play within a talented team and help give her Panther team the best chance to win by rebounding at a high level and creating a handful of turnovers every game. The Panthers return four of their top three scorers from last season, and Kuper highlights that group that will take the floor for Monticello.
Alyssa Lux
The Cascade guard is the leading returning scorer from last season’s state quarterfinalists and conference champions. Lux did a little of everything for the Cougars last year. She is a threat to shoot, pass, and create when she gets the ball in her hands, and that is a dangerous weapon that the Cougars can throw out on the floor. Lux has a simple shooting motion that will help her stay consistent shooting from the 3-point line, but she plays like a lead guard and is willing to make passes instead of forcing her shot.
Emmerson Krigger
The 5-foot-6 Camache guard was the leading scorer on last season’s Storm team. Krigger contributed to every aspect of the game statistically and was solid as a lead option for the Storm last season. Her shooting numbers were respectable, given that every team came into the gym knowing she was the main threat. She rebounded well for her position and created multiple turnovers on the defensive side. However, if she can get to the free-throw line more this season, she can get to another level. She only took 17 free throws last season and shot 70% from the line. There’s an opportunity for her to improve solely by getting to the free-throw line.
