Continue ReadingHalli Poock Halli Poock 5’6″ | PG Waterloo West | 2023 State IA was one of the top guards in the state last season for Waterloo West High School, leading her team to the state championship game where they fell just short, losing to Johnston High School, who ended the year undefeated at 26-0. Poock averaged 22.6 PPG on 52.6% shooting, along with 5.2 APG. Taking the #1 spot in the 5A class in overall assists with 135 total, and #11 overall throughout all classes in Iowa. The Bradley University Women’s Basketball commit is a great facilitator with natural court vision in transition, control of pace, and has the ability to score at will. She will come back this season with Oklahoma Women’s Basketball commit Sahara Williams Sahara Williams 5’11” | SF Waterloo West | 2023 State IA with the goal to returning to the state championship ending with a better result than a year ago.
Abby Tuttle Abby Tuttle 5’8″ | SG North Polk | 2025 State IA was the best passing guard last year on the floor for North Polk High School, averaging 4.3 APG and getting all of her teammates involved around her. The Comets point guard did a good job of setting the offense up once things broke down by being a vocal leader each possession last season. I would define Tuttle as a pass first point guard with a good handle under pressure and the ability to get past her defender on the way to the basket to either score or dish out an assist. Ranking #3 in assists during the 21′-22′ season in the 4A class as only a freshman, her growth as a player will continue as she gets older and will bring college interest carrying into her junior and senior season.
Akaysa Duitscher Akaysa Duitscher 5’5″ | PG Pocahontas Area | 2023 State IA was the second leading shot taker for Indians last winter, while also dishing out 5.5 APG to help lead Pocahontas Area High School to an overall 16-7 record, 7-4 in conference. Duitscher also averaged 11.5 PPG on 34% shooting, and 73.5% from the free throw line. The quick point guard has a solid game, being able to pass off of the catch or dribble, being able to shoot off of the catch or dribble, and being able to take over when the game is on the line. She is ranked as a top 100 player in the state coming into the 22′-23′ season with aspirations to jump up on that list while guiding her team to another successful season with a winning record.
Jayln Struble
Jayln Struble
The West Monona Spartans finished at 17-6; 8-2 in conference during the 21′-22′ season and Jayln Struble had a big hand in that. Struble may of not scored the ball a ton but she still made her mark on the stat sheet in other ways, averaging 5.2 APG, 4.9 RPG, and swiping 92 steals. She is a point guard who would rather pass and get others involved than score herself when given the opportunity. When you have a leader like this, it’s easy for everyone else on the team to follow suit and become more self-less. They have installed a solid foundation on this team and throughout the program in hopes to keep it growing into the future.
Nicole Sherer
Nicole Sherer
Nicole Sherer and Woodbine High School ran the court last season and put up a substantial number of shot attempts in doing so, with three players attempting over 200+ shots, this strategy faired well for the Tigers as they finished 20-4 overall; 13-3 in conference. Nicole will return as their starting point guard once again after averaging 6.8 APG, and 6.2 RPG in 21′-22′. The stat that really jumps off the page from last season was the average of 6.2 RPG for Sherer while being the height of 5’3, this shows just how much hustle and heart her game has while also being a self-less distributor. This season she will join back with three other starters from last year, looking to lead by facilitating one more time.
