The games were an Elk Rapids victory over Petoskey and a hard fought Dexter win against Salem. Let’s look at the 8 players that I took note of in these games.
Standfest, in my opinion was one of the most impressive players at the Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Top 250. It was clear during this game that she’s continuing her run of excellent basketball. Standfest showed strong hands on the glass and her speed down the court with the ball in her hands was impressive. She attacked the lane of the bounce and showed a pretty crossover move that created a lane to the rim. Standfest also showed nice touch with her finishes at the bucket.
Lauren Bingham

Bingham’s play definitely caught my eye during this contest. She showed some pretty incredible straight line speed, both with and without the ball in her hands. Bingham’s speed down the court, whether she got the ball or not, put a lot of pressure on the opposing defense. She showed the ability to both finish on the break as well as draw contact.
Guy was her team’s leading scorer, but it was her defense that drew my eye. She had terrific awareness and anticipation of the opponent’s ball movement. Guy used her length very well in attacking the passing lanes, especially on the perimeter. I counted at least 3 deflections with at least 1 of them directly turning into a steal and a fast break bucket on the other end.
Hope Wegmann
Hope Wegmann
Wegmann showed that she will influence games this season from both ends of the floor. She started the game hot with a baseline jumper for 2 and a wing jumper for 2 on the very next possession. Wegmann then turned to her defense. She kept a good base and really buckled down on D, picking up a couple of critical steals.
Perry was absolutely terrific in the game against Salem. She came out of the gates blazing, making play after play after play. She was patient with the halfcourt trap, using angles and creating a turnover that led to a bucket. Perry played excellent perimeter D and stepped in passing lanes to create chaos. She showed that she has 3 point range on her jumper and had a pretty left to right crossover move.
I was very impressed with Blumberg’s all around game. She did a great job of attacking the zone of the baseline and forcing rotations. Blumberg had nice touch on her floater finishes and hit a jumper from behind the arc as well. She was able to finish at the rim through contact. Blumberg showed some versatility on the perimeter, having both the ability to be a primary ball handler and distributor as well as the ability to score off the ball.
Kopacko definetely caught my eye with her play against Dexter. I knew she could shoot, and she did, with an example of that coming from a huge catch and shoot triple in the 1st half when her team really needed a bucket. Her toughness, especially when attacking the rim really opened my eyes. She put the ball on the floor and went at the bucket.
Bakkar was a standout player during grassroots season and she showed that her high level of play in the spring and summer was no fluke. Just like then, it was her energy and leadership that stood out. When her team’s shots weren’t falling, she was ready to step up and make a play. Bakkar made big plays and stops on D and showed that she could hit a teammate cutting to the basket while on the move in transition.
