This group of girls is wowing the crowd every night, but this past week we had a particular athlete that was given a standing ovation that had nothing to do with scoring 40 points, MUST READ! She scored the first basket of the game on Tuesday night with her Nickerson teammates supporting her! What a wonderful story as she continues to rehab to chase her dream, we are all in support of [player_tooltip player_id='94960' first='Ava' last='Jones'] in any way we can. Jones will always be a top player in the state in my eyes, consistently blocking shots, finishing at the rim, and a walking double-double no matter who she plays against. [player_tooltip player_id='453755' first='Nyah' last='Chandler']- Nyah, previously 3rd in scoring in the state is having a heck of a season with her east squad! Chandler is knocking down 3s from all angles, finishing at the rim, and putting the team on her back leading the way. From game to game, she's attacking the rim late in games forcing her way to the free throw line either sending them to overtime like she did at heights or she's winning the game for her squad. [player_tooltip player_id='94955' first='Carli' last='Carlson']- The recent Newman Jet signee put up 23 points against rose hill to get herself back in rhythm for this second half of basketball. One thing that's clear to the naked eye is that Carli can flat-out shoot the ball with the best of them! Off the dribble or off the catch, Carli can make you pay for helping off of her or she can create her own shot off the bounce. Look for her to lead her team in the playoffs as far as she can with her hot streak! [player_tooltip player_id='544009' first='Aniyah' last='Harris']- Harris is as good as it gets! She's young but extremely talented and plays at an elite level! Quick, shifty, has a knack for scoring the ball from inside and out. From her floater in the paint or her jumper on the perimeter, she knows how to go get a bucket for her southeast squad. Her elite handle allows her to play both on and off the ball making her a problem for the defense going downhill. Kenzie Edwards- Kenzie has been on a roll for her grizzlies team. recently scoring 15 points and getting back in the starting lineup, she plans to continue riding this hot streak. The smaller guard in Edwards relies heavily on her jumper but it's her ability to make her floaters and layups that will keep the defense on their toes. Kenzie has a quick and smooth shot that allows her to get the ball off before the defense is able to contest. With northwest being a young talented team it will be interesting to see how far they will go. Extremely competitive team that finds ways to sneak out wins.
