Montverde Academy #3 came into the game undefeated and Sidwell Friends #5 has suffered it’s first loss in two years at the hands of #1 Long Island Lutheran by a mere 3 points. However, if you flip over to ESPN Sidwell is listed at #2 and Montverde is #6. Both teams have national title aspirations and both teams have a schedule worthy of pay-per-view tv. The end result was a one sided 65-53 Sidwell Friends victory and a shakeup in the national rankings. Here are the top performers of the game.
Kendall pulled out her entire arsenal finishing in the lane, knocking down the three, locking down on defense and feeding her teammates. She played every position at some point in the game and finished with a nice stat line of 20 points, 13 boards, 4 assists and 4 steals. She walked away with a victory and the MVP award for the game.
Sahnya interestingly played only six minutes in the first half after carrying her team in their first game. In the second half she entered the game with a 7-0 run by herself finishing with a team high 15 points. It was definitely a headscratcher as to why Montverde waited so long to unleash her as they were down by as much as 18 points before Jah was able to cut the game to single digits.
Mjracle scored 10 points and showed off some good shooting going 100% from beyond the arc (2 for2). It would have been nice to see her get more opportunities while she was hot. She was active all over the floor and added 5 assists and 4 steals.
Leah scored a very unselfish 16 points and added a game high 8 assists. She passed up a few opportunities to get her teammates involved and had some jaw dropping plays where she outmaneuvered 2 to 3 defenders for baskets. Already established as a terrific shooter she was solid on all levels.
Every play that Jadyn made seemed like it should be a Sportscenter Top 10. She has the high flying theatrics down to a science and is looking to make the alley-oop a common play in the women’s game. She finished with 12 points and 8 boards and a spectacular block of the 6’7 Lety Vasconcelos wide open layup holding her scoreless for the game.
