Continue ReadingLaynee Hogan Laynee Hogan 5’9″ | PG East Buchanan | 2025 State IA showed during the pre-season that she was going to be one of the best scoring point guards and overall leaders that the state would see this season, thus far I would say she is doing that. Hogan is averaging 17.6 PPG on 44.9% shooting and passing out 4.7 APG while leading her East Buchanan high school team to an overall 11-3 record. The first time I had the chance to see Hogan play this year was at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Camp at Kingdom Hoops facility in August. During the day she showed off that she was a consistent scorer from all three levels on the offensive end, possessed great vision, and showed the ability to create for others throughout the duration of a game. Up until this point she is ranked third in the 2025 class in assists with 66 and second in steals with 67. I’m curious to what offers are going to come in at the end of this high school year and into the AAU season for Hogan. She is a solid player with good basketball IQ and skill. She would be a nice get for a lot of programs out there looking for a point guard who leads by example.
Journey Houston Journey Houston 5’11” | CG Davenport North | 2025 State IA and the Davenport North Wildcats sit with a 13-1 overall record, only dropping one game prior to playing in their contest on Friday evening at #2 Pleasant Valley. Houston was ranked as the top player in the 2025 class before this season tipped off and she is going to keep that rank at the end of this season as well. She is an athletic forward who has a guard mindset and skillset. She does a good job on the defensive side of the ball moving off of screens and talking through things with her teammates. In general she is a superior player to her competition with the physical gifts of a high D1 athlete. By the end of her high school career I would be surprised if she wasn’t offered by almost every program in the country as she really is that good. In their first 14 games she is averaging 18.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 2.7 APG. One of the best stat lines in the state currently.
Highlights
Dasia Foster Dasia Foster 6’3″ | C Oskaloosa | 2025 State IA snuck under the radar a tad bit going into this season but she has firmly planted her name as one of the best sophomores in the state at her position this year thus far. Foster, being a dominate force in the lane, is currently averaging 13.3 PPG on 47% shooting and 14 RPG for the Oskaloosa Indians on the road to being 7-7. From a numbers stand point I think that some important things to point out about Fosters game is the fact that she accounts for around 40% of her teams total rebounds this season while only turning over the ball 18 times, which is a pretty good number from the post position. Lastly, she has done an efficient job of altering her opponents shot attempts near the hoop, recording 27 blocks, up until now. I like Foster being added and moved up to the 2025 class rankings at the next update in March. She is a solid talent with good size at 6’2 and that will be appealing to a good amount of college coaches in the long-team view of things.
Reagan Pagniano Reagan Pagniano 5’7″ | SG Pleasant Valley | 2025 State IA has been nothing less than sensational as the second offensive option for her #2 ranked Pleasant Valley high school team. Pagniano, a combo guard who is a natural shooter but all around scorer, has had some ball games this season that have been pretty impressive from a numbers standpoint. Through their first 14 games she is averaging 11.9 PPG, and leading her team in assists at 4.0 APG while shooting 91.6% from the free-throw line simultaneously. To finish out this regular season and going into the playoffs the Spartans just need to keep up their constant play that they have shown all season thus far. Pagniano is a college level guard who can do a lot of good things with whoever she is playing for. In a bigger college program I see her position more set at the shooter position but I’m sure that will expand as her game does over the next 2.5 seasons. I imagine next high school year that once star forward Halle Vice Halle Vice 5’11” | SG Pleasant Valley | 2023 State IA has graduated that she will take over as the main option in most facets of the game. I’ll be excited to see what she can do when given more opportunities in the years to come.
Morgan Miller Morgan Miller 5’9″ | PG Iowa City Regina | 2025 State IA has been the big time player that Iowa City-Regina high school needed to step up this season for their team to have another great year and she is doing that. Miller is the overall ideal point guard that a college coach would love to have on their roster. She plays with intent, dedication, and overall just plays the game the right way. She is always respectful and grateful toward her coaches or opponents while still keeping a high competitive drive throughout the longevity of a game. A huge plus to her game this season that I like specifically is how consist shooting the ball she has been. She may not be the biggest in size but makes up for it with her consistency scoring while also doing a great job of creating for the teammates around her. Currently she is ranked second in assists by sophomores in the 2025 class and has led her team to an overall 13-2 record, their only losses coming at the hands of two top-5 ranked opponents that they played earlier on this season.
