The 3A class of athletes certainly has schools that can compete against anyone on any level. Here are some of the upperclassmen that I have been able to see over the past several weeks that are doing a lot for their teams.
Peyton Whicker
Peyton Whicker
Peyton Whicker is feisty on defense stripping the ball from her opponents and using that to push it up the court. She attacked the basket getting to the hoop battling contact when needed. She followed shots on both ends grabbing rebounds, and she had some nice putback opportunities on the offensive side. I don’t think she stops moving when she’s on the court constantly fighting to get open and finds ways to be an asset on defense. One thing that also stood out to me was her coach telling her throughout the game, “You’re doing exactly what I need you to do.” She read her defenders well knowing when to cut backdoor if they overplayed the wing.
Lauren French
Lauren French
Lauren French is a tall presence in the paint. She can block shots with ease, and grabbing rebounds comes easily for her making sure to score off offensive boards. She did a nice job using shot fakes to drive around her defender. She’s able to go up easily getting a high pass. She had a nice drive getting the ball in the middle of the court against the press and attacking the basket for two points.
Savanni Harris
Savanni Harris
Savanni Harris is quick with the ball weaving in and out of her opponents for two points. She showed off her three point shot off the pass, too. On the defensive side of the ball, she didn’t shy away from getting inside to grab rebounds. Her pull up jumper was difficult to defend even scoring two through contact.
Myla Hoover had a nice stroke from deep, and she scored another two right after a three in the first quarter on a fast break catching the pass and being ready to shoot. She anticipated passes grabbing steals, and she did a nice job with these new possessions finding her teammates flashing up the court.
