Jaydn Sharer
The junior from Montezuma led her team in scoring with 13 points in the Barvettes’ narrow 45-42 win over Springville. Sharer only took eight shots in the game, but she made all of them count. The junior made three of the four 3-point attempts she took, and at the end of a lower-scoring game, those points mattered. Sharer’s ability to take advantage of her opportunities when they came to her was excellent and helped her team live to play another game.
The senior led the Mustangs with 13 points, as Walker and her team ran away with the win. Walker is one of many Newell-Fonda kids who can score in bunches on any night. Tonight Walker found herself in excellent positions, and her teammates found her. The Mustangs have so many athletes that can hurt defenses in transition, and they aren’t easy to keep track of when they play in their press and create chaos. Anyone can score 13 in a game, and tonight was Walker’s night.

When the Mustangs are at their best, they create live ball turnovers and score quickly. Sievers is the key to that, especially when she gets a steal in the Mustangs press. Tonight Sievers got into positions where she could attack defenses recovering after a turnover, and she created excellent opportunities for her teammates to score and racked up ten assists in the Mustangs’ win. When they get going like they were tonight, they are a challenge to handle for anyone in 1A. They’ll be a tough out this postseason if anyone gets them. I expect them to return to Wells Fargo in a few weeks.
Liz Lane
The Mediaopolis recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 52-46 win over Danville. Lane also added a few assists in the winning effort. Lane also made over half of her 15 shots in the game and was a load to deal with around the rim, as she also rebounded the ball well, and her dominance around the rim matters in these one-and-done settings in the postseason. She was the reason the Bulldogs are still dancing this postseason.
