WISE Wins the PG County Championship

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Close to a thousand people packed the gym at Henry Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland for the Prince George's County championship game between Wise and Oxon Hill. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This was a competitive game between two scrappy teams and they ended the first quarter tied at 8. Wise started to use their size to their advantage in the second quarter and really took control of the paint. They opened up a 27-17 lead at the half thanks to some good work by [player_tooltip player_id='857737' first='Ariana' last='Meriedy'] and the Yarber twins. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The third quarter featured more of the same with Wise increasing their lead to 37-25. Wise looked poised to blow the game open in the fourth, but Oxon Hill made a couple of runs and never let Wise get comfortable. She led the team in scoring with 14 points, including a big three down the stretch that killed an Oxon Hill rally. She put constant pressure on Oxon Hiill's defense by driving into the lane and making shots or passing out to teammates for clean looks. She strapped up on defense as well, providing pressure at the point of attack. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='857737' first='Ariana' last='Meriedy'], Wise, 2025, Cente</strong>r- I've been watching Ariana improve steadily since fall league play. She is a dominant rebounder and a good shot blocker and anchors Wise's stellar team defense. She has developed a nice touch around the basket and looks very comfortable facing up and taking shots out to fifteen feet or so. She should rack up a few offers during the spring and summer. At a legit 6'3" she is a serious prospect. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Chrisdin Jones, Wise, 2023, Guard</strong>- Chrisdin is a big guard and a three-level scorer, but she does her best work in the paint. She made some nice slashing moves on her way to 10 points. She played strong defense and provided some leadership when the momentum slipped away from Wise in the fourth quarter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='455400' first='Aaliyah' last='Conteh'], Oxon Hill, 2025, Guard</strong>- Aaliyah was all over the court providing hustle plays and energy.
