Typically, those voters won’t go over 5 five deep in DC-MD-VA even though they can go seven/eight. With that said there are maybe two spots up for grabs for about 12 players. Here are some thoughts on some players in the discussion. Disclaimer: I have no votes.
It may be a good idea to get Kyndal fitted now for her McDonald’s jersey. Her senior year return to St. John’s makes the Cadets the favorite to be the 2024 WCAC Champions and she is the projected player of the year. She has a complete package of skills that translate to college and pro and should only get better over the next year.
Highlights
Kendall is a problem for defenses trying to stop her and offenses trying to score against her. She has her politicals in place to put her McDonald’s jersey to print already. At times over the last couple of years she has been the best player on the court playing with All Americans and next year she will be the upperclassman and the next Quaker to be added in the history books.
These are players that aren’t locks but can make a case for the team with the right summer in front of the right people.
Ava has what it takes on the court and if she puts it all together consistently this spring/summer she will have no problem getting her name called. Her stock rose significantly last summer which brought a lot of attention to McDonogh this season. She had times in front of the right people the said yes and will need to bring it every time she steps on the court from here on out.
I still haven’t decided what type of player Tatum is right now. She has all of the physical attributes to do whatever she wants at any position. Is she a slasher, does she want to be a spot up three point shooter, how about a playmaker? She has physical advantages that I feel she can and should take advantage of against smaller player and other advantages against bigger and slower players. When she is in her zone she is pretty unstoppable to make that team she needs to be in her zone when the lights come on and the eyes are on her. The key for her is to relax, not put pressure on herself and trust her ability.
These players have All American talent but will need to bang out a couple of All American locks this summer with someone actually watching to have a legit chance to be on one of them teams.
Marley is one of the best players I’ve seen all year. She has the ability to be the best player in the gym and you wouldn’t even know it unless you are paying attention when she actually does one of those things only her and a few other players in the country can do. There is also the thing that those selection people avoid picking more than one player from a high school unless they have to.
Jaeda is a player that will actually seek out the top players on the court and take it to them. Even if she destroys all of the nations top players over the summer she will need a mouthpiece advocating for her as the storyline will be that the player had a bad game. Regardless, if she can make a good run she will earn her due respect whether she is listed on the team or not.
