Continue ReadingAll season long you consistently hear about some of the top players in the state and how they perform, one of those players this year was Katy Reyerson Katy Reyerson 6’2″ | PF West Marshall | 2023 State IA and to no surprise. Reyerson is lengthy and athletic forward with a boat-load of basketball skill. She has everything needed to be a dominate athlete on the basketball floor at the high-school level and beyond. She is fundamental while being consistent and is always doing a lot, but never too much for her teams. Next season she will be playing at the University of Northern Iowa, trying to make her presence known from right out the gate. She is going to be successful. She is motivated, has the athletic ability, and has a bunch of talent that is superior to most her age. All this combined makes for a great receipt for success.
Kaliyah Sain Kaliyah Sain 5’10” | SF Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2023 State IA put together another nice season to end her career at Cedar Rapids-Kennedy high school. Sain, an offensive juggernaut from all scoring levels on the floor, is a real competitor in all facets of the game. She has the offensive fire power to change a game in a blink of an eye or can switch onto the other teams best player to lock them up on the defensive side of things when times are tough. A big part of her game is consistency. A factor which will really matter at the next level with where she is committed to play. If she keeps up working hard in the off-season while she continues to expand her game, she will be a consistent scorer and factor at the next level over the next few seasons, with the possibility of taking her talents even further then the college level before the end of her basketball career.
Lillie Petersen Lillie Petersen 6’0″ | PF Bettendorf | 2023 State IA , the U of Wisconsin-Parkside basketball commit, put together a promising year leading into her freshman season of college ball. Petersen is solid forward with the ability to get up and down the floor in a hurry. She does a fantastic job rim-running from both sides of the floor, leading to early and easy baskets for herself and for others. Along with her fantastic footwork in the post and her ability to score through contact, she also gets it done on defense. She can switch onto most players while being savvy enough to know when to hard-hedge or switch on a screening situation, not to mention her ability to find where the ball will be put up by her opponent and getting a deflection. At the next level she is going to be a lot of handle for defenses. Once a college coach works with her on some small tips and tricks to make things easier on her in the post, she will excel.
Highlights
During the state tournament there is a lot of great talent on both sides of the floor. As a matter a fact, most of the top talent in the state is they’re competing in that one week. Throughout all the players I saw compete, one of the best was Addison Klosterbuer Addison Klosterbuer 5’9″ | SG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA . Klosterbuer is the purest shooter in the state with an act of making it rain from deep on a regular basis. She makes it seem effortless when the ball is in her hands. This was no different during the state playoffs a few weeks ago, Klosterbuer showed off some real high level offensive moves into a clean step back or pull up jumper consistently. For her college career Addison has committed to the University of South Dakota to come on and use her offensive ability to help the Coyotes have a nice overall season over the next few years. With the ability she has, I could imagine her on the floor right away in situations where they need a player who can score and score in bunches, quickly, but we will just have to wait and see.
Going into the state tournament Bria Wasmund Bria Wasmund 5’5″ | PG Sibley-Ocheyedan | 2023 State IA was a name that few knew but the one that did, weren’t surprised by how productive she was on the floor. Wasmund, a quick and efficient point guard, did her best job of guiding her team each game during their regular season and into their playoff run, leading to state. She was the leader of their offense while brining up the ball, was the player setting people up in the right position so that they could be successful, and when she was given the opportunity she took it and made a lot of her open shots, especially from behind the arc. Another major thing that stood out about her game was her heart. She showed emotion while keeping it in check and show that on every play she was willing to work harder than anyone else on the floor. When looking back throughout all classes at the state tournament, Wasmund was a player that maybe showed the most heart out of everyone, something truly inspiring for those watching.
