Continue ReadingVanessa Bickford Vanessa Bickford 5’9″ | PG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA showed off all season long why she is such a highly ranked player in the 2024 class in the state of Iowa. She will attempt to do that once again during her spring and summer AAU sessions with her Lady Pure Prep team, located out of Des Moines. Bickford is a solid talent at the guard position who makes things happen. She has an act of putting herself in situations to be in the right place at the right time in big moments during a game. I got to watch her play live at the state tournament a few weeks ago and she did not disappoint. She did a good job of showing off the versatility of her game while being a team player on the floor for her DCG squad. Going into AAU sessions make sure to keep an eye on Bickford. She is going to be a good recruit at the guard position who can come in and make a difference right away, in an already successful college program somewhere out there.
The Cedar Rapids-Prairie Hawks this season set a solid foundation for years to come with their addition of a new head coach and new offensive system, accompanied with handfuls of young talent at all positions. Throughout the mix of all this young talent and skill, this team needed a veteran presence on the floor and that came in the form of McKenna Murray McKenna Murray 6’0″ | PF Cedar Rapids Prairie | 2024 State IA . This is a player that possesses good size and skill for her age with a nice ceiling when looking at the long term. She has a nice feel for the ball while being able to do a number of things on the floor to help her team be successful. Not to mention that she has a high motor and a lot of heart. She leaves everything on the floor and plays each possession like it’s her last. This AAU season she will be with Lady Martin Bros once again on the UA circuit, a team that has a lot of talent across the board when looking at their overall roster. She will look to show off her versatility and complete game amongst a high-level of competition. Something I can’t wait to see.
McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5’4″ | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA and Newell-Fonda high school made it to the state tournament this year once again after putting together a 24-3 season, eventually losing in the 1A state championship to power-house Bishop Garrigan high school by a final score of 68-57. Sievers showed out though. She displayed that she can be a leader of a team and successful while doing it. She did a good job of controlling pace and making the right choices throughout the longevity of her games. In the championship she may not of scored the ball at a high rate but she led her team in rebounds with 8 and in assists with 4, including only throwing 1 total turnover throughout the game. Honestly this whole team played well in the championship. They just ran into one of the most dominating high school players in the country in Audi Crooks Audi Crooks 6’3″ | C Bishop Garrigan | 2023 State #42 Nation IA . Crooks ended up scoring 49 of her teams 68 from the post position, something that’s hard for guards to do anything about. Looking into summer I’m excited to watch Sievers join up with her Play4Him team again. A program and team that has some real ballers involved, Sievers included.
Kierra Jungers Kierra Jungers 5’10” | PF Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA happens to play for the same AAU team and same high school team as McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5’4″ | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA whom I mentioned above. This experience makes these two extremely connected when they step on the court with each other. Jungers is a combo forward with the hope of being a combo guard, more-so at the next level. She has great size, speed, coordination and athletic ability for her position. This leads to a mismatch a majority of the time, creating an easy bucket for herself or an open look for a teammate. When scouting her to play at the college level a lot of coaches would love her at the 3 post. With her size, in a program that has bigger players around her, she could be a game-changer working between the guard and forward position. Her game is really promising. This spring and summer I expect her interest level to rocket amongst recruits with what she could bring to the table at the college level.
