Some of the teams only just formed and/or practiced a time or two, making the quality of play that much more impressive. Take a look at several Kansas players who especially stood out in the Big 10 section.
A special shout out goes to the Thunderbolts. This tight group of Salina area players were a joy to watch. Even when down to six players from a short bench due to injuries these young women played extremely hard and well together on both ends, did so with high energy, did so with toughness, and supported each other every play. They all run well, defend with physicality, and pass the ball well to get good shots.
Amelia Bootsma Amelia Bootsma 6'2" | C Wichita Independent | 2026 State KS , 6’2″, C, Wichita North, Dynasty (KS) ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”], 2026 – Boostma has legimate center size with good length. She has a game that needs development but she has serious upside. While Bootsma did not show great athleticism she has foundational skills, plays hard and is competitive on both ends, has solid north-south speed, and shows a great deal of want to. I like also she is unafraid of contact and competing for boards in a crowd.
Trinity Dixon Trinity Dixon 5'1" | PG Wichita Southeast | 2026 State KS , PG, Wichita Southeast, Kansas Elite Heat 16U, 2026 – Dixon consistently showed quickness on both ends of the floor. A sweet move indicative of her scoring ability began in the left side, extended mid-lane area. Off a really good ball fake she blew a defender’s doors off then jumped out and scored at the block.
Keyona Hall Keyona Hall 5'8" | SG Liberal | 2024 MO , 5’11”, SG/SF, Liberal, Gameball Fusion 16U, 2024 – Showed handles and athleticism down the left lane, spin into left hand, scoop shot. Getting to the rim in transition. Must routinely get a body on someone when a shot goes up. Will give up the ORB to the shooter she defended and otherwise not be in a position to rebound.
Gracie Kirchoff, 5’5″, CG, Smith Center, Thunderbolts, 2024 – An athletic do-everything type of guard she played consistently and physically on both ends. I really like that she jumps to the ball when rebounding and grabs the ball with both hands.
MaKayla McClellan MaKayla McClellan 5'4" | CG Wichita South | 2023 State KS , 5’4″, PG, Wichita South, Dynasty (KS) ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”], 2023 – In seeing McClellan for the first time since last summer I was quite curious about where he game was. I was pleased to see penetration ability, actively attacking games looking to kick to shooters. She also finished well when given the opportunity. While she did not shoot well McClellan was consistently quick with the ball and athletic in the open court and off the rebound.
Maci McClure Maci McClure 5'7" | PG Minneapolis | 2025 State KS , 5’7″, CG, Minneapolis, Thunderbolts, 2024 – Like her teammates McClure plays hard and defends with physicality. She also has solid transition speed. What really caught my eye is how well she works her wing area without the ball. Defenders have to pay attention because she takes advantage of positioning mistakes in spades.
Peyton Remus Peyton Remus 5'5" | SG Beloit | 2024 State KS , 5’5″ PG, Beloit, Thunderbolts, 2024 – It has been since Remus’s freshman year since I have seen her play. And while she will not be ranked until the next update, she showed plenty of energy and game. She has good transition speed, changes ends quickly creates well, pushes temp off the outlet, and boxes on perimeter well.
Leah Thompson, Wichita Independent, Dynasty (KS) ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”], 2024 – Thompson is a scrappy player who is especially persistent on the boards. She has good hops and will quickly go back up a second or third time. She also handled the ball well. I look forward to seeing more from this new-to-me baller.
Alana Webb Alana Webb 5'4" | PG Wichita Southeast | 2025 State KS , 5’7″, PG, Wichita Southeast, Kansas Elite Heat 16U, 2025 – Webb never seemed to get in a good groove. But sometimes it takes time for overall team chemistry and flow to set in. She is a physical guard with big hops. Webb has good speed with the ball, athleticism, and plays with physicality on both ends.
Katherine Weiss Katherine Weiss 5'7" | CG Sacred Heart | 2024 State KS , 5’7″, CG, Sacred Heart, Thunderbolts, 2024 – Like the rest of her teammates Weiss defended well, played fast, and unselfishly. Some things that stood out where range with her three ball, quickness working inside out of the half court offense, and how strong she goes to the hole. A good free throw shooter, Weiss is a walking three point play.
