I was able to catch games on all three days of the event. The following athletes are finishing up their last travel basketball seasons as they enter senior years soon. Here are some of the standout 2024 ball handlers from the event.
Avery Mills Avery Mills 5’8″ | CG Liberty Christian Academy | 2024 State VA was making some nice plays penetrating the paint and opening up the court for her teammates. She sees the floor well knowing how to make adjustments to get the right pass, and she knows when to attack the basket all the way or pull up for her jumper. She anticipates passes well grabbing the steal.
Serenity McNair Serenity McNair 5’5″ | PG Grace Christian | 2024 State NC attacks the basket finishing at the rim with ease with her explosive ball handling. She drives hard to the hoop getting in the paint shifting the defense. She settles her team down when needed pulling back with the ball, or she pushes the tempo finding her open teammates running up the court for fast breaks.
Highlights
Danasja Horne Danasja Horne 5’9″ | CG Quality Education Academy | 2024 NC was all over the court scoring on all levels and getting inside for rebounds. She is quick on defense being able to grab steals and push the other direction. She hustles all over the court even when her opponents come up with a turnover as she’s able to flip the switch right to defense and slow their progress up the court.
Demya Phifer Demya Phifer 5’7″ | PG West Rowan | 2024 State NC moves so well with the ball making sure she attacks the gaps or makes the nice pass to her teammates. She can drive hard to the basket scoring herself putting up some nice floaters in the paint. Her ability to relocate after the pass makes her an asset on the court all the time.
Phifer’s West Rowan teammate, Lauren Arnold Lauren Arnold 5’11” | SF West Rowan | 2024 State NC , was attacking the paint finding the gaps for her teammates or making it count herself from the free throw line. Her appearing on this list shows her versatility all over the court being able to bring the ball up herself, post up on the block, or attack the basket all on her own. She certainly helps control the tempo for her team.
Maddie Frank Maddie Frank 5’2″ | PG South Point | 2024 NC showed off her stroke from deep. She had a nice pump fake really getting her defender off their feet to get the open look for her jumper. She moves well with the ball keeping her eyes up finding her open teammates or making her own adjustments to get the pass to the open person.
Molly Burns Molly Burns 5’7″ | CG Ardrey Kell | 2024 State NC was pushing the tempo with her ball handling attacking the lanes and finding her open teammates for some fast breaks. She was effectively using behind the back dribbles protecting each possession. She was able to shoot off the pass or pull up off the dribble knocking down three pointes with ease.
