There were several players from each team that stood out, many will be on the All-Tournament squad yet certain things just grab me from individuals that I love to recognize so from opening night, here ya go
Reed has a couple of special things going for her college coaches, first of all, she’s “long and athletic” which is the base, and she stands above “the magic number” which is 6’0. Let me add the intangibles she brings to the table and it has to start with her timing to block, alter and or deflect shots. She moved her feet well to defend inside the paint yet just as impressive, she stepped out of it to defend. She has nice moves around the basket and showed she could score around the rim. Her upside is really nice. Plays for Kansas Dream Team 2025
Sumaya Edwards
Sumaya Edwards
Edwards has good size and plays big around the basket to rebound, which she did on both ends, as well as score on putbacks. She did a good job of creating her shot and showed she could drop it from midrange but she also did it in transition. She attacked the basket from multiple angles and saw the floor both in the set as well as the open court plus she does something I love to see, plays the passing lane. Her on the ball defense was also nice as her pressure helped create turnovers
Jaclyn Lara
Jaclyn Lara
Lara used her body well inside the paint, on both ends of the court and although she is a couple of inches shy of “the magic number”, she plays as if she is. I enjoyed watching her go after everything off the rim, that caught my eye immediately and it didn’t stop there as she went after loose ball as well. She does a good job defensively, she reacts well on switches and even showed good lateral movement to defend on the perimeter. She also scored around the basket powerfully, her “hands and footwork” combination gets her the #THROWBACK hashtag
Mackenzie Camp
Mackenzie Camp
Camp showed me a few things that simply stood out including she could knock down shots under pressure and her free throws to help close out their game on opening night for the win is part of it. She does a good job of creating her shot and uses a deceptive first step to attack the basket and finish, nice body control and after contact. She also has quick hands and came away with steals but her playing the passing lane and handling the ball in the open court was also solid. She saw the floor both in the set as well as in transition

Marshall falls into the “long and athletic” category and did a good job defensively showing solid on the ball pressure. She also played the passing lane and handled the ball after the steal to either attack the basket or make solid passes, her court vision in the half court was nice as well. She doesn’t force anything and playing within herself stood out as well as being able to get hers “in the flow”. She set the defender up to attack with either hand and finish but her dropping the FLOTA was one of the things that JUST DID IT for me
