With the graduation of class the following summer is a time to really look at who the returning show runners are and who appears to be stepping into that role. Enjoy this look at some emergent floor leaders.

[player_tooltip player_id='621238' first='Raegan' last='Black'], 5'7", PG, Cheney, 2026 - Black had a strong 3A state tournament. Despite having 5 turnovers in the semifinals Black stood out. Playing with poise, including when trapped in the back court, she showed quickness and an ability to create her own shot. With several seniors graduating, including to all-state bigs, she will have ample opportunity to fill a leadership void.

[player_tooltip player_id='606244' first='Braegan' last='Buessing'], PG, Sante Fe Trail, 2024 - Buessing has been a part of two straight 3A state tournament teams, earning all-Pioneer League honors both seasons. Very quick with strong handles, Buessing is as fast with the ball as most defenders are without it. A spot-up three point shooter with range she also finishes well. The past two seasons she has had a greater than 1.29 assists to turnover ratio and averaged more than 11 points. Expect to see her garner more respect across the state as a key component to the Chargers success as they strive to make a deep run in 3A again.

[player_tooltip player_id='335953' first='SaMiyah' last='Ellis'], 5'7", PG, Independent, 2025 - Ellis's first season Independent after transferring from Sunrise Christian Academy was a huge one. Setting the school record with 43 points in a game, it culminated in a 2A state tournament appearance. She earned first team Central Plains League honors, Varsity Kansas first team, and KBCA second team honors. Through last summer she had been seen by other PGH scouts in other states as well as myself and her game at times could be explosive and diverse. From scoring at all three levels, taking defenders off the bounce and finishing athletically, creating space and moving well away from the ball, and using her quickness on both ends. Her 2023 season saw her leadership ability grow. Not only leading the team on the floor in pressure situations but also in helping the team's very inexperienced bench provide good minutes in crunch time.

[player_tooltip player_id='616752' first='Leah' last='Henke'], 5'7", SG, Bishop Carroll, 2025 - With the graduation of Fort Hays State bound [player_tooltip player_id='227853' first='Landon' last='Forbes'] I expect Henke to be the top candidate to step in at the point. When Forbes would be off the floor Henke would take over the point. A 2023 Greater Wichita Athletic League first team selection, she is fast, quick, and a credible perimeter shooter. She worked well in the give and go game with posts and could be found defending opponent bigs on occasion.

[player_tooltip player_id='606243' first='Brielle' last='Ptacek'], Southeast of Saline, 2024 - 12.22 v Hillsboro video feed - Lot of air under the three ball, hit a pair of them. Fast, quick, soft entry pass to where teammates can catch it.

[player_tooltip player_id='621263' first='Ava' last='Romero'], 5'8", PG, McPherson, 2026 - Long, fast and athletic with good size Romero immediately was part of the Bullpups rotation from the start of the season. As she improved, her minutes and her role on the team grew. When graduating, and Johnson County Community College bound, [player_tooltip player_id='156294' first='Chloe' last='Clevenger'] would be off the floor Romero took over the point. I really like her quick step, handles, confidence, and use of head fakes to affect close-outs.
