Continue ReadingOn Twitter, I asked for some highlights and full games to watch over, and I have more than enough to go through starting tonight. I’ll start with the individual ones sent to me to give me time to watch through some of the complete games sent my way. No idea how long this will take, but I’ll have two articles up today.
Shayna Williamson Shayna Williamson 5'9" | CG Appleton North | 2024 WI
Before I get into what I like about Williamson’s game, I want to start by letting you know how talented the kids that she’s playing against. A year ago in the FVA, every team had at least one kid who held a D2 offer, and most teams had a kid who would either eventually get or had a D1 offer in 2021-22. Williamson is Appleton North’s defensive ace. Her coaches trusted her against some of the best kids in the entire country. I thought she did an outstanding job being an athlete and trying to make these scholarship-level kids’ lives as miserable as possible for 36 minutes. I believe in her ability to shoot at a high level. Her shot is smooth and repeatable. In my opinion, she projects as a solid 3&D wing with her 5-10 size.
Aneisha Scott
Scott is one of my favorite lead guards to watch from Minnesota. She’s a shifty kid who can change directions on a dime while sprinting at a defender. Scott has good vision and can drive to pass well, and understands how to attack in a way that’ll make defenders move to open up a pass to one of her teammates. She’s a threat on the offensive end of the floor the second she touches the ball. She’ll draw interest over the next few years.
Erin Mitchell
One thing I like about Mitchell’s ability in the post is how quickly she gets into her move. She doesn’t wait for anyone to come down and double her. She gets right into what she wants and goes up. Mitchell has solid hands and can catch the ball in traffic. However, I think she has the drive to get down the floor and try to beat her defender to the spot to get layups. An effort like that is solid for a few points per contest, and over a season, that can add up.
Bella Gruber
Gruber is an excellent piece because she can hunt mismatches all game. She’d be a slightly undersized small-school post, but she’s strong and does her work early to get deep position in the paint, and does a solid job finishing through traffic. The added layer Gruber brings is her ability to stretch the floor and make perimeter jumpers. She’s also got a solid handle on the ball and can attack the basket when slower posts step out, trying to guard her on the wings. She’s well-rounded on the offensive end of the floor, and her ability to make her defenders pay in multiple ways is her best quality.
