An athlete who is a hard worker and understands the fundamentals of the game, was a game-changer in more than a few contests last season. This winter she is going to be coming into the season, ready to roll like last year and locked in. If she keeps putting together the skill she has on the floor with the length and athleticism she holds as an individual, she will be putting up some big numbers for her last go-around of high school basketball.
Highlights
Camdyn Kay Camdyn Kay 5’10” | CG Dubuque Hempstead | 2024 State IA is a player that I have mentioned more than a few times this spring because of her game-play on the AAU floor. She has been a dominate leader on both sides of the court, each weekend she competes with her Iowa Prep 17U Platinum team. Kay, a 5’10 guard, is versatile. She is physical, can score at all three levels of the floor, rebound better than most her size, and can defend a guard or post on a high school floor. This spring has been big for Kay as she is receiving a lot of interest going into July. Keep an eye on her over these next few months. I have a feeling she is going to be picking up some more offers before the high school season tips.
Eva Solseth Eva Solseth 5’9″ | CG Southeast Polk | 2024 State IA is going to come back this year to Southeast Polk high school and have a big role in her teams success. She is going to be touching the ball on every offensive possession, while being one of their best overall defensive players as well. It’s really hard to put a position on Solseth so I’ll just say she can play the 2-4, depending on the matchup and what her team is asking of her. This winter, I’m excited to see Solseth have another great season to follow her junior year, with a bit of a chip on her shoulder. She is going to work hard and stick to what she does best and that’s going to bring her overall success on the floor.
Ally Olmstead Ally Olmstead 6’2″ | C Alburnett | 2024 State IA joins the Top 100 players of this Rankings Update at #78, after being on the Watch List up until this point. Olmstead, a 6’2 center, was one of the best overall rebounders and efficient post players last high school season throughout the state of Iowa. I expect more of the same this season as Olmstead is set to show off everything that she has, as one of the best posts once again, with her mix of size and consistency in the lane. Olmstead is a player that does work early and fights for position on each possession. In a class that is really well off at the PF/Center position, to be a top ranking player at that spot is an accomplishment to be proud of and that’s just what Olmstead is at this moment in time.
Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5’9″ | SG Marion | 2024 State IA is another player that has really shown out on the AAU circuit this year. A lengthy forward who can score, rebound, and cause some havoc on defense. In the games that I had the opportunity of watching this spring of Van Weelden’s she is someone who is going to surprise some people. She has skill with length and speed on the floor. She knows her spots, understands spacing, and works off of the ball whenever she can. Being productive while not having the ball in your hands is a major “Pro” when it comes to getting you onto a college floor. If she continues to stay dedicated and works hard up until this winter on the right things, she is going to have a senior season to remember individually, and hopefully as a team at Marion high school.
