Something you hear me say time-to-time in situations is, “If you are good enough, they will find you.” I think this statement reigns true with the prospect that is Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5'9" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA . Weelden is someone that has progressed tremondeouly over her four high school seasons and because of that, she is going to have a shot to play with Loras College out of Dubuque this upcoming Winter season. Van Weelden is a lengthy 2/3 Guard, that can move around because of her long arms and quick first step going either direction. I had a chance to watch Van Weelden compete up close this past AAU season/Senior year and she stood out more times then not. She demonstrated that she can work outside of the lane or near the hoop. she rebounds hard and makes good business decisions, and she is one of the first to get on the floor for a loose ball any opportunity she gets. Loras recently has gotten a new coach this past year and he has really made a difference already within their system. He brings a lot of knowledge to the floor and I’m sure he is going to see the worth of Van Weelden these next four years. I’m not sure if she will see the court right away as a Freshman because of their roster but she definitely is going to be someone to keep an eye out for in the near future.

D3 – Loras out of Dubuque got a steal with the recent commitment of Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5'9" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA of the 2024 Class. Weelden is someone that I recently highlighted in this Class as being a player that could potentially be a steal for a college and the Duhawks got that steal. Weelden is a lengthy guard that understands the game of basketball to a T. In most situations, she is ahead of the everyone else in her thought process and that leads to a lot of success for everyone around her, a majority of the time. I think that Weelden’s game translates to the Loras program pretty well. She is going to be able to come in and produce efficiently in whatever system that program is running. As a coach, that’s all you can hope for. We will have to wait another season until all of this happens but the future is bright in Dubuque, that’s for sure.

Someone who is going to be a big piece to her varsity teams “puzzle” this winter is Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5'9" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA of Marion High School. Weelden is a natural Shooting Guard that does a little bit of everything on the floor for her team. She can knock down shots from deep, she can take the ball in and score on smaller defenders off the dribble, she can rebound over alike size players, and she can defend guards who are smaller or posts who are bigger then herself at a steady rate. This Marion Wolves team is going to have some nice pieces across their roster this year. If they can put together a system that will work moving forward, they will be favored in a good amount of contests they compete in this upcoming season. Something I’m sure that this team is very excited for.

Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5'9" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA is another player that has really shown out on the AAU circuit this year. A lengthy forward who can score, rebound, and cause some havoc on defense. In the games that I had the opportunity of watching this spring of Van Weelden’s she is someone who is going to surprise some people. She has skill with length and speed on the floor. She knows her spots, understands spacing, and works off of the ball whenever she can. Being productive while not having the ball in your hands is a major “Pro” when it comes to getting you onto a college floor. If she continues to stay dedicated and works hard up until this winter on the right things, she is going to have a senior season to remember individually, and hopefully as a team at Marion high school.

Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5'9" | SG Marion | 2024 State IA was letting it fly this weekend, making a majority of her attempts from behind the three point line. I like Van Weelden’s game. She is always ready to catch and shoot at the three point line while being a great on-ball defender. Another great piece to have on the floor for a team that is diverse and effecient. Another player that any coach would love to work with.

Another guard with a fundamental and quick release, wether it be inside the arc or not. Quick hands who gets a lot of tips and deflections. Shows a lot of confidence on both sides of the floor. Stat Stuffer. Plays off of two feet when she gets to the middle of the court. Good patients.
