Ava O’Neil Ava O’Neil 5’6″ | PG St. John’s (DC) | 2024 State MD is a player you love to have as a coach. She provides excellent defensive intensity and takes pride in picking up opposing players full court. I like Ava because she can handle the ball and be a primary ball handler, but she also has the skill set to play without the ball and be a spot-up shooter. I watched her a lot at St. John’s, and she played off of star guard Kyndal Walker Kyndal Walker 5’9″ | PG St. John’s College | 2024 State MD well.
Talia Astorga
Talia Astorga
I just watched Talia Astorga play for Bishop O’Connell last weekend at DMVlive, and she was really impressive. Offensively, Talia’s best skill is her ability to make open threes. Talia does a lot of things well and is an all-around good player. She is good at putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim. She also rebounds and defends well.
Another player I had the chance to watch last week at DMVlive was Lamaria Estridge Lamaria Estridge 5’11” | PF St. Andrew’s Episcopal | 2024 State MD . Lamaria plays hard and is supremely skilled. Lamaria is a great athlete and a fantastic rebounder. Her passing is excellent, and she uses her frame to get to the rim and score. Lamaria is the total package on offense and someone to look out for.
Highlights
Trysten Colburn has real potential on the defensive side of the ball because of her length and athletic ability. Her passing is underrated, and it shows when she gets in transition. Trysten thrives in transition overall because she has good size and runs well. Her shot is coming along, and although her ball handling is solid, I think it’s something she could tighten up to make her a better 1v1 scorer.
Pikesville’s Bree Taylor Bree Taylor 5’8″ | SG Pikesville | 2024 State MD is a two-way combo guard. Bree is a pest defensively, and at 5’8″, she plays a lot bigger than her size. She is a good scorer and uses her speed to get to the rim and finish. Bree can score at all three levels and always leaves her imprint on a game with her skill and energy.
Amiyah Fulton Amiyah Fulton 5’4″ | PG St. Maria Goretti | 2024 State MD is a true floor general. The number one thing that stands out is how cerebral she is. She makes the right decision a lot and sees the game well. Her ability to shoot the ball is fantastic as well. She has a phenomenal attitude and is very mature. Amiyah is a solid player, and as a coach, you would love for her to run your offense through.
There are a lot of good defenders on this team takeover team, but I think Aliyah Taylor Aliyah Taylor 5’10” | SG Pikesville | 2024 State MD is the best one. She is versatile with her ability to guard 4 or maybe even 5 positions and completes defensively. She has long athleticism and the defensive instincts that take a player from being good on defense to being elite. She can shoot the ball some and is a solid offensive player overall, but again her calling card is her defense.
