This is a common time for this to happen, as most players have taken a few official visits at this point and know what they want from their college environment/experience. Below I will be highlighting players that have recently committed for their college basketball careers coming up in the near future. Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Aaliyah Riley Aaliyah Riley 5’7″ | PG Johnston | 2024 State IA , the Johnston high school combo guard, is one of the most recent players to come off the virtual draft board in Iowa. Riley has committed to D2 – Northwest Missouri State for her future after this upcoming senior season. A nice pickup for the Bearcats as Riley is a playmaker at the highest of levels. It doesn’t matter what floor she is on, she is going to hoop at a high and consistent rate. Not to mention that she is ultra competitive. Something that helps motive her to be better, each and every time she steps on out the floor. I’m excited to see how she will end her career with the Dragons. It’s sure to be a fun season with the roster they have.
Another player that has some talent committing to the next level is Breck Mills Breck Mills 6’1″ | PF Southeast Valley | 2024 State IA . Mills is a lengthy small forward, who can stretch the floor and shoot the three, or post up smaller defenders near the basket. She has recently committed to D2 – Minnesota State University (Moorehead) for her next journey on the court. This match is a sound one and will play out nicely in the long run for both parties here in my opinion. A talent like Mills is versatile and interchangeable with her size. Like I said early on this AAU season, if she were to play just one position for her teams and hone in on it, she could be a weapon out there. I think that’s what could happen here still but we will just have to see how it plays out. With her ability, she can make it happen.
A week or so ago when I touched on some of our stock-risers this summer I didn’t really speak on Vanessa Bickford Vanessa Bickford 5’9″ | PG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA . Bickford, a quick and extremely physical guard, has recently committed to D2 – University of Minnesota (Duluth). A smart pick-up by the Bulldogs with the ability I’ve seen Bickford display. On more than one occasion i’ve seen her take over a game and completely change the outcome. She plays with great communication and smarts with the ball in her hands. She possesses the ability to score in a plethora of ways or distribute at a high and efficient rate. Not to mention that she is very physical. She would rather go to the line and have a chance for free throws more than anything else it seems like most of the time. I’m excited to see what she will do at the college level in the future but for this upcoming high school season, she will be locked in.
One of the most recent commits out of the state of Iowa is Maddy Maynes. Maynes has recently committed to the NAIA – Grandview, located out in Des Moines, as recent as yesterday Via her social media. Maynes is a an efficient and hardworking guard. She has a college motor in the aspect that she seems to never stop moving and understands that beating her opponent with her endurance is an easy way to succeed on the court. She possesses a fundamental and balanced jump shot with the ability to put the ball on the floor with either hand and get into the heart of the defense. I think Maynes is going to flourish in this setting. She just needs to stay confident, be herself, and let it fly when she gets good looks.
