She has improved since I last watched her play not long ago during last season. She was already good, but she seems to be more assertive and confident. She is good off the dribble, getting her own shot with a variety of quick moves. That is the biggest part of her game that stood out as improved and impressive. She can get her own. She is a good shooter and a good athlete to go along with the rest of the offensive skills. She made some beautiful passes, threading the needle on the break. She can also defend multiple positions. Ashley is a rankings rising candidate from what I saw in Chicago.rn
The first thing I noticed with Colby was her defense. She was all over the place with ball pressure and great help defense. She is a lengthy and versatile player who can run the floor, plays defense, and rebounds. She is a capable scorer with a soft touch extending to the three point line. She made a few threes that looked really good. It wasn’t hard to notice how active she was. She was playing her role on this team well. She does things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, such as ball pressure and help defense that I mentioned. She changes and blocks shots. Just a good overall defender with the ability to work on the block. She can guard anyone on the floor. rn
Portia is another one who has improved a ton since I saw her last year at the Expo. She is a bulldog with the ball, as I have said before. She can get into the lane with her low to the floor dribbles and quickness. When she decides to get to the basket, she gets to the basket. She gets to the free throw line a ton and shoots a high percentage. She is a constant threat from three, making it tough on opponents. If they get too close, she is gone to the hoop. She also gets up into the opposing guards on defense. She might be a little undersized but that isn’t relevant with the way she plays. She is a tough player and a real floor general.
Highlights
Alyssa brings good size and a back to the basket post game. She is good at establishing position on the block. Once she gets the ball that deep, she is effective with both hands around the basket. I saw this from her during the tournament, you’ll see a lot more of it during the high school season. She is a walking double double.
