What a fun time it was in the gym seeing so many skilled competitors on the floor at one time! Here is where I break down Team 5 sharing some bright spots from their day! Ring the bell!
Taelyn Stiver-Brooks
Taelyn Stiver-Brooks
Taelyn Stiver-Brooks is another Macon academy athlete who came to play at the showcase today. My favorite play from Taelyn was when she fired a full length inbound pass down the court to a teammate, so much for pressing! Taelyn handled the ball well under pressure, using both hands well to create space. She did a good job catching passes and reversing the ball to open teammates. Taelyn did well guarding the ball and finding open space on offense. Taelyn will be someone to keep your eye on at Kalamazoo Central.
Avery Hannah
Avery Hannah
rnAvery Hannah put her stamp on the PGH Showcase today. She started off confident from the first game and kept that momentum moving until the very end. She drove into contact causing a foul and then hit her free throw. Avery demonstrated the luxury of handling the ball from the 1 spot or playing off the ball. She drained multiple 3-point baskets in the corner and has a balanced, natural form (shooter). She hit a nice runner in traffic and demonstrated solid court vision by finding teammates and sharing the ball. She created space with her dribble and applied excellent ball pressure full court on defense leadin to steals. Avery was one prospect who made a splash today and I look forward to seeing her excel at Haslett.
Kensington Freeland
Kensington Freeland
rnKensington (Kenzy) Freeland had some hype coming into today and she fully proved why. She showed her strength as a ball-handler getting downhill to the basket and finishing with both hands. She had the ability to use counter pivot moves, low sweeps, finish with a runner, what can’t she do? Kenzy crossed over a defender then beat her for a left hand finish. She used an inside out dribble then took the ball to the hole another time down the court. She had a clutch 3-point made basket at the end of a game to top off her day! Kenzy is a downhill guard first who will be an exciting prospect at Kent City.

Jozelynn Begick Jozelynn Begick 5’10” | SG Freeland | 2027 State MI showed off her offensive abilities at the Freshman Showcase today. She is a lengthy 5’9 with speed, quickness, and balance to be a very effective guard at the high school level. Jozelynn had an impressive fake pass layup finish at one point and filled up the net with a spot up 3-point shot. She showed her court vision by making a cross court skip pass for an assist and also hit a two handed runner. Jozelynn demonstrated her balance by putting up a left-handed scoop, which resulted in a foul. She made an impression with other scouts in the building and will be a key piece in Freeland’s program moving forward.
Elise Bullock
Elise Bullock
rnElise Bullock did like her AAU program says: took Flight. She was all over the court today and whether I was watching her play or not I could not stop seeing her make plays. Elise was one of the most complete prospects on the day: rebounding, passing the ball for assists, making shots, driving to the basket, stealing the ball, and more. Elise scores at all three levels and defends all three levels. She was one of the best PG’s on the court today and it will be exciting to see her develop into a cornerstone for the Grass Lake program.
Jessica English
Jessica English
Jessica English made some effective plays today that helped her team succeed at the Freshman Showcase. She made her presence on the boards, putting herself in position to make a play. Jessica had a nice offensive rebound and high finish. One of her most impressive plays was pushing the ball out in pace after a defensive rebound and taking it all the way to the basket. Her poise handling the ball, using jump stops, counter moves, and pivots helped create plays for her teammates. She had a good day and will be someone to watch at Dewitt.
Brynn Butler
Brynn Butler
rnWow did Brynn Butler put on a show today! She did literally everything for her team on the court. Brynn seemed to constantly be at the free throw line because the only way to stop her drives to the rim was to foul her! She played fast, strong, and aggressively in every game. Brynn rotated into help blocking multiple shots and she communicated verbally defensively as a leader for her group. She had multiple and one layups, but also utilized the step back retreat dribble to make mid-range buckets. Brynn stood out as one of the most complete players on the court today and will be a fantastic player for Jenison this season.
Kolbie Roelofs
Kolbie Roelofs
Kolbie Roelofs showed her strength as a rebounder on both ends of the court today. She followed the play well and got herself in position to rebound the ball, which resulted in multiple put back layups for her. One of her best plays on the day was when she blocked the ball from behind during an inbounds play. She had a strong finish off of a baseline inbounds play and added another block defensively. Kolbie will definitely be a post to watch in an up and coming Royal Oak program.
Nichole James
Nichole James
rnNichole James is not smiling in this photo because she is an absolute warrior and fierce competitor (she smiled later). The team did not have a great first game, but she stood out as someone who continued to battle and lead the entire game! As the day went on the team gelled and experienced success but it was Nichole’s response to adversity that really impressed me today. At 6’2 she was a physical force on the floor, she dominated the boards at both ends of the court regardless of who her opponent was. She blocked shots and dribbled the ball like she was trying to break the floor (love it). Nichole handles the ball extremely well for a power forward and can take it to the hole from the perimeter and finish with either hand. Nichole was the most vocal encourager, motivator, and leader I saw on the court today and she is someone I will look forward to writing about and watching in the future.
