Kentuckiana Hoops put together their 1st girls camp on Saturday and it brought in a lot of really talented players from all over. While the majority of the participants were from Kentucky, most of the players were ones I had not yet gotten to see play prior to Saturday. Below, we will look at class of 2027 and 2028 standouts from the 2023 Kentuckiana Hoops girls camp. Note: Usually my standout articles do not include every player that participates in the event, but every single player in attendance caught my eye at one point or another, so this will be a series of articles that discuss what stood out to me this weekend.
Class of 2027
Cami Bickett Cami Bickett 5'5" | PG Bullitt Central | 2027 State KY (5’4 | Guard | Bullitt Central)
Bickett first caught my eye with an impressive drive to the rim. She really just stayed solid no matter what was thrown at her. She was strong with her ball handling and made good passes. She consistently ran the floor and made hustle plays. She also did a good job finishing with her off hand.
Hailey Conder (5’5 | Guard | South Central Jr-Sr – IN)
Conder has good speed both with and without the ball. She showed off her outside shooting, but also could knock down shots from any spot inside of the perimeter. Her quick release allowed her to get shots off fast. She did a good job attacking gaps and made smart passes off of the bounce. Loved her hustle also.
Kamilla Marcum (5’11 | Center | Owsley County)
Marcum has great size and strength, but it doesn’t stop there. Her ability to extend and knock down shots was impressive. In fact, she showed an ability to extend all the way out to the 3-point line on her shot. She has great touch around the basket and finished on both sides of the rim. She also finished in a variety of ways in the paint. Showed she has great hands on both ends of the floor. Was very strong on the boards.
Adelynn Moorman (5’4 | Guard | Breckinridge County)
Moorman’s quick crossover is as tough as they come and was effective all throughout the day. She may be small, but she’s tough. Has good form on her shot and consistently knocked them down from different areas on the court. She had some strong finishes off her drives after utilizing some nice moves to get past her defender. She also stayed really solid defensively and never gave up on plays.
Class of 2028
Kyndall Dawson (5’7 | Forward | King Middle)
Dawson definitely held her own despite being a 2028 competing with older players. Her ball handling skills were especially impressive for a forward and allowed her to extend out from the block. She already has good size and strength which she used well on the boards. Also a good shooter.
Nakiah Mejia Nakiah Mejia 5'6" | PG Scott | 2028 KY (5’5 | Guard | Woodland Middle)
Meija was a standout regardless of class which says a lot for a 2028 player. Love the fearless approach she has to the game. She has a very quick first step that allowed her to get past defenders with ease. She is also a true 3 level scorer. She scored in a variety of ways, including a nice step-back 3. Showed she can get her shot off quickly, but also is a big threat off the dribble. Finished well at the rim and consistently created separation from her defender. Shifty handles and a strong work ethic. Spent over half of the lunch break getting shots up.
Karlea Stanley (5’7 | Guard | Johnson Central)
If I hadn’t watched Stanley in the past, she’d be another one I was shocked to see was a 2028 because she has a very advanced skillset and plays absolutely fearless. She is a true playmaker who can create for herself and her teammates. Her ability to score or kick off the bounce made her a matchup nightmare. She does a great job handling the ball even when being heavily pressured. Tough on her drives and can extend all the way out the 3-point line as a scoring threat. Really impacts the game on both ends of the court.
