All four of the PGH Kentucky scouts/writers were in the building and we all walked away very impressed by this class. There’s bound to be players mentioned in multiple articles by different scouts, but every player deserves to have something written about them after their showing on Saturday. When I was trying to decide how to break down these articles, I ultimately decided to turn the notes I had for each player at the event into a series of articles. I’m putting them out numerically based on jersey number, so below you will find the notes I had down for #245-250.
Asia Carner
5’3 | Guard | Dixie Heights HS | Kentucky Blue Devils
#245 – Was consistently the glue player for her team. Made a huge impact and everything was really running through her offensively. You could tell she’s used to playing up and against a lot of talent because her skillset was advanced. The lefty keeps her head up and has really good ball handling skills. Handled any pressure that was thrown at her with ease. Can score inside or out and doesn’t need much space to get her shot off. Creates well for herself and for her teammates.
5’4 | Guard | Bullitt Central HS | Kentucky Dream Thunder
#246 – Another player that really stood out for her team. Strong ball handler. Finds the gaps and attacks them well. Showed a nice step back move that she used to knock down 3’s even with a defender near her. Did a great job at scoring in a variety of ways and making things tough on the defense. Made good passes and played good defense. Was really solid on both ends of the court.
Makiyia Wheeler Makiyia Wheeler 5'5" | PG Franklin County | 2027 State KY
5’5 | Guard | Franklin County HS | Kentucky Premier
#247 – Shifty ball handler has some of the quickest handles you’ll find. Very good speed and she can change speeds to get past defenders very well. Had good pull-ups and drives to the rim showing her ability to score at all 3 levels. Offense can be run through her because of her ability to create and make good passes. Defensively, she really gets after it and applies a lot of pressure. Plays absolutely fearless and consistently catches the eyes of spectators.
Aaliyah Cheek
5’5 | Guard | Frederick Douglass HS
#248 – Never got rattled and kept her composure no matter what physicality she faced. Good strength and strong handles. Finished some nice floaters in the paint and showed she was able to get into the paint consistently. Has great hands defensively and did a good job on the boards. Stayed ready to come and help teammates when they picked up their dribble. Very effective spin move to get a step on her defender.
Eriyaune Daniels
5’6 | Guard | Dunbar HS | Lexington Crossover
#249 – Has good strength. Played good defense, sliding feet to stay in front and showing an ability to block shots. Knocked down outside shots with consistency. Handled the ball well. Can grab rebounds and go.
Avery Morris
5’6 | Guard | Allen County – Scottsville | Southern Kentucky Starz
#250 – Comfortable handling the ball even when a lot of pressure was applied. Can weave through a defense and keeps head up so she can make passes down the court. Has a good outside shot with range. Made good drives and showed she can finish in the paint or at the rim. Can get into the passing lanes to come up with steals defensively.
