I’ve seen Summer Shackelford Summer Shackelford 6’0″ | SF Rappahannock County | 2025 State VA do a lot of great things. She is solid at scoring with her back to the basket. But what I think really sets her apart is her ability to shoot at her size. She doesn’t need a lot of room to get her shot off because of her length. Summer is a good defender with her ability to block shots and use her frame to alter shots and get into passing lanes.
Azareya Whiting Azareya Whiting 5’9″ | SF Harve De Grace | 2024 State MD is what you want out of a wing. She is strong and athletic and always makes her presence felt. She is a good driver and plays physically when she gets into the paint. She is a fantastic anticipatory defender, and she uses that to get out in transition and use her speed and overall fantastic athleticism. She is tenacious on defense and does a lot of good work as a rebounder. Azareya is only about 5’8”, but she plays a lot bigger than that with her strength and energy.
Highlights
I am a huge fan of Junior forward Jamia Taylor Jamia Taylor 6’0″ | PF Paul Laurence Dunbar (DC) | 2025 State MD ‘s game. She has good length and is a fantastic athlete. These traits help make her a fantastic rebounder and shot blocker. She has a lot of skill on offense and will take a substantial offensive jump this year. She has a nice jump shot and is expanding her range. She can hit jumpers, spotting up or in the mid-range. She puts the ball on the floor and gets her shot off. Jamia has excellent potential and is a player to watch this weekend.
Highlights
Emorean Thomas
Emorean Thomas
In her first year, Emorean Thomas was one of the best players on a championship-winning Dunbar team, and she had another really solid year in her sophomore year. Emorean is a good passer and terrific when she drives to the rim. Emorean is an efficient scorer and a skilled finisher. She could be a better jump shooter, but her ability to score in the paint makes her so hard to stop.
Ava King Ava King 5’7″ | CG James River | 2025 VA is a good two-way player. She is always super active defensively, getting steals and blocking shots. She is a good spot-up shooter and is a solid rebounder. Ava is what you want from a wing and someone I am excited to watch more of this weekend.
