However, there’s no chance I can get to all these games due to travel and an uncertain work schedule. Regardless, I want to highlight some games this season if you have the time or want to watch some good basketball.
Dec. 8th: Hortonville at Kimberly
I look at this early season FVA matchup as a tone-setter for the rest of the season. I believe the newcomers at Kimberly could take them over the edge, but they’ll get an opportunity to prove themselves in December against last year’s D1 runner-up in Hortonville. In a world where Kimberly knocks off the Polar Bears, they immediately become a tier-one state title contender. Even though a win alone doesn’t make or break them, they’ll learn about where they are in their development process, and we’ll find out how competitive this team could be.
Jan. 27th: Arrowhead at Nazareth Academy (IL)
The Warhawks aren’t running away from anything, and scheduling Nazareth Academy proves it. Nazareth Academy is one of the best programs in Illinois and finished last season at 36-1 (the only loss was to Notre Dame), won the 3A state title in Illinois, and finished as the No. 1 team in the state. Arrowhead has played against talented teams, but they’re kicking the non-conference competition up a few notches. I’m eager to see how the Warhawks sophomores progress and figure out ways to win some of these games and possibly this one down in Illinois.
Dec. 5th: Beaver Dam at Waunakee
Since the Golden Beavers moved to the Badger, they haven’t lost the conference. Waunakee has the talent to unseat them on top of the Badger-East. The Warriors have the player of the year in the Badger-East last season back in Claire Meudt Claire Meudt 5'10" | SF Waunakee | 2024 State WI , one of the most exciting newcomers in Tessa Bryan Tessa Bryan 5'8" | PG Waunakee | 2027 State WI . Even sophomores Audrey Meudt Audrey Meudt 5'10" | CG Waunakee | 2026 State WI and Graycin Phillips Graycin Phillips 6'0" | SF Waunakee | 2026 State WI could play prominent roles. There’s more to unpack with those players and others I didn’t mention, but don’t be shocked if the Warriors walk out of their gym on Dec. 5th with a win over Beaver Dam.
Dec. 2nd: Hortonville vs. Providence Academy (MN)
In one of the most high-profile games involving a team from Wisconsin, Hortonville is making the trip back to Minnesota after beating Minnetonka last season at the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic to play defending 2AA Minnesota State Champions, Providence Academy. The Lions have one of the best players in the 2026 class in the country, Maddyn Greenway, junior post-Hope Counts, senior wing Brooke Hohenecker, and have some of the top young talent with incoming freshman Emma Millerbernd and eighth grader Ari Flies-Peterson. Hortonville won’t see a team with as much individual talent as the Providence Lions boast. If you can attend that event, you won’t be disappointed.
