I saw almost every team multiple times yet I made it a point to see everyone because what I say and write is based upon what I know, it’s always been that way and it always will and please remember I am a REAL EVALUATOR so it isn’t always about scoring with me, it’s the contribution, including sparks that change the momentum so I chose one player from each team but guess what, I’m dropping separate evals on EACH squad and I’m also dropping my First 5 so thanks for attending and away we go
Jamyla Anderson-5’7 G (Billy Ryan) DC Queens
Anderson brought energy off the top and that’s one of those things you can’t teach yet watching her attacking the basket powerfully and finishing after contact was impressive until she changed hands to finish after the lick, which dropped the mic. She defended in the set, as well as on the ball, she played the passing lane and she understands positioning as she outrebounded taller players
Amanda Scott Amanda Scott 5'7" | CG Ross Shaw Sterling Houston | 2027 TX -5’7 G (Ross Sterling) FAM Elite
Scott gave me a preview of what’s coming a few days ago and I called her a future Top 100 player based on what I saw then, scratch that, as it’s no telling how high she rises, on and off the court. Her explosiveness off the dribble will create problems for defenders, and so is her “catch and shoot” from outside, yeah I see everything. Her “on the ball” defense created turnovers but she also went after everything off the rim as well as loose balls
Bailey Burns Bailey Burns 6'0" | SF Lake Creek | 2027 State TX -6’0 G/F (Lake Creek) Cy Fair Premier
Burns continues to show she can do more than just “shoot the long ball” and watching her run the 1 for the first had me smiling as she controlled the tempo and made good decisions. Being heady and comprehending things is a huge plus and her playing the passing lane and handling the ball afterward to score or dish was nice. She also did the same after hitting the boards but also her lateral defense looked really good
Kira Karundethu-5’4 PG (Allen) Doom Squad 16U
Karundethu grabbed my attention last season at a Pass Tha Ball event and guess what, watching her PASS THA BALL was a treat because her court vision was among the best at the showcase but she showcased so much more that she’s added. Her slight HEZ, HEZZIE, or HESITATION, was very nice but so were her crossover and spin moves and that mix helped her score off the dribble. She also showed the pull-up jumper and “stop and pop” in transition
Wrigley Green Wrigley Green 5'8" | CG Argyle | 2027 State TX -5’8 G (Argyle) Pro Skills
Wrigley laughed when I asked her Spearmint or Doublemint but I should have asked BIG RED because she was hard to stop defensively, you caught that. Off the dribble with either hand, she had nice body control on her finishes, after contact, and drops a solid pull-up jumper with a hand in her face yet her deceptive first step set everything in motion as she finished with either hand. She’s heady, has solid court vision, and plays “on the ball” defense but she also plays the passing lane very well
Yardin Evans Yardin Evans 5'8" | PG McKinney Boyd | 2027 TX -5’8 G (McKinney Boyd) Team Takeover
Evans grabbed my attention last season and her parents reminded me I covered her sister years ago so it’s always good to hear about me. But it’s better to see things developing right in front of me on the court and her energy on defense alone immediately changed the momentum and opened things up. Her pressure baseline to baseline is smothering, she has quick hands and plays the passing lane, both of which got her steals, she’s explosive in the open court, sees the floor in transition, and finishes acrobatically
Lyla Delafosse-5’7 CG (Tomball Memorial) Cy Fair Premier
Delafosse had been out for a few weeks with a slight injury yet “you would have never known” as she immediately made things happen. She’s a “long and athletic” guard, which is also the base, so watching her read the court and play the passing lane was nice, So was her timing as she blocked some shots. Her court vision was solid, and so was her pull-up jumper in the set as well as in transition but watching her create her shot and attack the basket to score was very nice
Courtland Cloud Courtland Cloud 6'0" | SF St Pius | 2027 State TX -5’9 G/F (St Pius) Texas Southern Flames
Cloud is going to make sure things are cloudy for defenders trying to guard her because she too is “long and athletic” with an explosive first step to score off the dribble and when you factor in her body control, it appears as if she’s defying gravity to finish after contact, She used the HEZ both in the set and the open court, well she also saw the floor in both, yet her playing the passing lane, defending and rebounding all helped change the momentum at times
