Hailey Sicard, Eastridge
I really enjoyed watching Sicard get busy. In transition her head was always up looking for an opportunity to push the ball ahead. She made good, hard, accurate passes to cutting teammates which is a super-underrated skill. She stepped into jump shots with great footwork and her release was picture perfect. She found her rhythm from deep knocking down at least three 3’s against Team #11 in the 2nd half. Defensively she hounded the ball handlers the full length of the court making them worry more about her and disrupting anything they wanted to do. She is sneaky good.
Ava Brynteson Ava Brynteson 5'9" | CG Prior Lake | 2027 State MN , Prior Lake
Brynteson does a little bit of everything, and does them well. Need a timely 3, book it.., an extra pass for a better shot, got it. She moves well and thinks the game at a high level. Brynteson has big shoes to fill for family bragging rights as her sister Haidyn Pitsch was a prolific 3-point shooter for the Lakers a few years back. During the showcase Ava displayed all of the above attributes and looked like she had a good time in the process. Ava is the ultimate team player willing to do what it takes for the betterment of the team.
Aubrey Pannhoff, Holy Angels
Aubrey is a tough, gritty, lighting quick guard. She pushed pace while under control looking for opportunities to break the defense down to sneak her way into the lane. Her IQ was impressive as sometimes smaller guards will over penetrate and get themselves in trouble. Pannhoff showed her maturity when she opted for the uncontested pull-up jumper from the free throw line in transition instead of joining a block party. Doesn’t sound like much, but it is. She just needs to continue to work on her outside shot and that will make her complete 3-level offensive player.
Kinnley Colligan, Rogers
Kinnley just doesn’t stop moving. She gets her hands on a lot of loose balls just by being active. She runs the floor like a gazelle, stretching the defense to create scoring chances for her and teammates. If she wasn’t getting touches she’d crash the boards or get a steal to create her own opportunities. Defensively she moved her feet well and off the ball played great team defense. She will continue to grow her game by working on becoming a stronger ballh andler and consistent outside shooter. That along with her motor will make her a very valuable asset for any team.
Ella Burke, Edina
I love lefties! Burke displayed the ability to shoot the 3 from outside and get down and dirty in the paint. She has good size and is a willing passer that makes winning plays. She’s good enough to take as many shots as she wants, but chose to get her teammates involved and played both ends of the court. She found her stroke from downtown in the 2nd half of one of the games and put everyone on notice that she’s a player to keep an eye on.
Jersey Coleman Jersey Coleman 5'11" | PF Owatonna | 2027 State MN , Owatonna
What a great combination of finesse and power! You don’t see it too often in players this young, but Coleman has it. Coleman is just south of 6 feet and has an unstoppable inside-outside game. She took bigger players off the dribble to finish at the rim and punished smaller guards on the block. She had a nice back and forth battle with Lyla Hentges Lyla Hentges 5'10" | SG Chanhassen | 2027 State MN when their teams played and it was no doubt to anyone watching that she held her own and will be a force for years to come.
Brynn Kadlec, Maple Grove
Brynn did a great job of rim running being the beneficiary of her own hard work picking up rebounds for put-backs and just keeping possessions alive. Kadlec used her length and good defensive position to block and deter would-be shot attempts. She also displayed the ability to grab a rebound and use her dribble to clear it and not turn it over trying to force it to a guard. She’ll need to get stronger around the rim and develop a go-to move or two to help reach her full potential.
Cate Currie, Rochester Century
What impressed me the most about Currie was her vision and passing ability. Just when I thought she’d gotten herself into a jam, she’d whip a backdoor pass to a cutting teammate for a bucket. She did this over and over. She’s listed at 5’9″, but I venture to say she may be getting cheated out of an inch or two. She seemed extremely comfortable with the ball in her hands and didn’t do anything fancy, just got from point A to point B. She rebounded well, blocked shots and even stepped out and knocked down the 3 ball. She moves at her own pace and did not allow the defense to speed her up. She could stand to get a little stronger around the basket, but with the skill set she already has, look out!
Savannah Mehan, Spring Lake Park
Mehan loves to shoot the 3. Every time I looked up, she was either shooting one, or looking for a kick out to shoot one. Suffice to say, she loves to shoot the 3. She’s got good form and rotation, which means she’s putting in the work. When she wasn’t hanging out in trey land, she was getting active around the basket fighting for extra possessions and looking for other ways to contribute. She could stand to improve her ball handling which would add another dimension to her game.
