Just like those teams, there are also a handful of other teams that everyone should be watching out for as the Playoff’s slowly approach. In the article below, I will be highlighting SOME of the teams that I like to make a run this winter. Teams that could potentially upset some big named programs, while opening the eye’s to everyone else that is watching.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Lincoln High – High School
Lincoln High – High School is going to be prepped to have another big season throughout their year this winter. They will return a good amount of players from last season, where they went 24-2 and I expect everyone returning will come back with a chip on their shoulder. The competition level this season will be just as high as the last so they will have to step up their game if they want to win the Class A State Title but it is something that is very doable for this group. They have the roster to compete, now they just need to go out there and execute.
Millard North High School
Another team that is going to be right back in the Class A State Title hunt this winter is Millard North. The Mustangs fell just short last season and eventually lost to Lincoln High during the State Playoffs but they will use that as motivation this time around. This group will return a good amount of players, while still having a majority of their production on their team returning. Last season was the first year that their underclassman, who are really skilled, saw the floor. I expect their role to widen this season. If this team can find a rhythm early on in the year, they will have another chance to make a nice run before things are said and done next spring.
Skutt Catholic High School
Skutt Catholic High School is going to be the main obstacle standing in the way of another Class B State Championship for Elkhorn North this winter. When you break down all the teams in this class returning, I’m not saying that it is impossible for anyone else to make it but it’s very, very tough. These two teams are head and shoulders better than everyone in their class and it’s pretty obvious. In their semi-final matchup’s last year at state, both teams “walked” into the Championship game after HUGE victories. I think the same happens this season and they meet once again in the Championship but before that can happen, each program needs to go out and take care of business during the regular season.
Yutan High School
A team that slipped into the State Playoff last season at the #8 spot was Yutan High School but I think that coming into this season, they have learned from their pervious experience and have a roster that can once again make the State Tournament in 2024. Yutan returns 2-4 players that have really nice skill, individually with the ball in their hands. The type of players that could really make a run during this season if they play for one another throughout each contest. They will be more skilled across the board then most of the teams they will face and if they use that to their advantage, I’m sure that Yutan will shock some people come Playoff time this season.
Bridgeport High School
Bridgeport fell just short of the Class C1 State Championship game in overtime last season and they are ready to put that all behind them, starting fresh this winter. A program that houses a ton of young talent, is going to be a team in this Class that is favored to have a really nice season and to make the State Playoff’s once again. When you take about Bridgeport, you talk about tenacity, you talk about strategic play, you talk about all the little things that they do. They are going to use those same ideas this winter to push their limits and hit their goals as a team. Something I’m interested in seeing play out.
Malcolm High School
One of the best players out of the 2026 Class attends Malcolm High School and last season as a Freshman, she was dominate in every category on the floor, eventually helping her team to the State Playoff’s where they fell just short to the eventual State Champs. I have a feeling over the next 2/3 years, this Malcolm team is going to return to the Playoffs with a shot at the title. They have young, skilled athletes that can carry them, they just need other role players to step up in big moments. If everyone does that and contributes, you will be hearing a good amount about this group all winter long.
