Throughout a 2025 Class that ranges with talent at all positions, sometimes it can be difficult to stand-out but not for August Palmer August Palmer 5’10” | PG Iowa City-City High | 2025 State IA . Ever since Palmer was a freshman she has been putting up some big numbers. She started off her High School career at West Branch and dominated that conference, afterwards for her Sophomore season she transferred to City High in Iowa City to finish out her high school career. In most situations, it would take a player time to adapt but not Palmer. She came into City High and stepped on the floor right away, putting up some more big numbers in the 5A class. A big jump from her previous 2A competition level. As of most recent, Palmer has taken some college visits and had some solid D2 interest but it’s still up in the air where she will end up. There is no doubt that she is a college level talent. She just needs to find the correct fit for herself.

Morgan Miller Morgan Miller 5’9″ | PG Iowa City Regina | 2025 State IA is one of my favorite Point Guards in this Class for a few reasons. The first being that she is the definition of a true PG. She controls pace/tempo, runs her teams stuff to a T, can score from all three levels, and most importantly-she creates for others at a high and consistent rate. Miller is type of player to elevate the play of everyone else around her and that speaks volumes to myself and other potential college recruiters. As for college interest, I’m sure every D3 school in the state is after Miller but I think she is a Division-2 talent at the end of the day. She had a killer Sophomore high school season last winter and she is looking to repeat that, coming up here in the next few weeks. Something I’m excited to see first hand this season.
Another individual that jumps off of the screen because of her ability to control her team is Tillie Smith Tillie Smith 5’4″ | PG Ankeny Centennial | 2025 State IA . Smith is a guard that is a constant. That is the best way to describe her game in my opinion. She stays on the floor most of the time and is her team’s orchestrator of everything that is happening out there. To be a good point guard, you have to be aware of you surroundings at all times throughout a contest. I think this is another intangible that Smith displays. There is never a moment when she doesn’t understand the best route for success for her team, wether it be on offense or defense. Looking forward, I’ve seen the future rosters of a lot of the collegiate programs throughout the state and I believe that Smith should find a home before her high school days are over. She is one of the more fundamental guards that I’ve seen throughout the state, accounting for all classes and I hope she demonstrates that again this winter at Ankeny Centennial.

Greta Dillinger Greta Dillinger 5’10” | SG North Polk | 2025 State IA has had her recruitment heat up this past few months and it makes sense as to why. Dillinger has a flame thrower for an arm from deep and is fairly skilled with the ball in her hands. She can hit her opponent with a nice dribble move into a take, or she can just rise up above them and knock down a shot. In todays game, it’s turning into a time where every player needs to be able to knock down jump-shots. No matter if you are the 1 or the 5 for your perspective team. So that Dillinger is a shooting specialist fairs well for herself. She has decent size and athletic ability to match with that size, we will just have to wait and see where everything falls together in the end.

Pleasant Valley is coming off its first State Title for women’s basketball in school history and they are looking to keep that momentum rolling this Winter. The Point Guard that stood out and led this team a title last season, will be back this season for her Junior year and that is Reagan Pagniano Reagan Pagniano 5’7″ | SG Pleasant Valley | 2025 State IA . Pagniano is a smaller Point Guard with a lot of heart. Other than being efficient, crafty, and displaying great touch on the basketball, she has shown over this past six months that she is a killer. She wants to win and she will do anything to make that happen for her team. Not only does Reagan have the skill-side of this sport down, she has the Will-side of it down as well. Meaning that she is the type of player that can Will her team to win games in the end and that is not something you see everyday. This is a college level Point Guard and I’m not sure what it’s going to take to get collegiate recruiters to realize that but the sooner they do, the better.
