Check out Part 1 below!
The senior lead guard was in prime form on Sunday. First of all, I was very impressed with the leadership she displayed. She was vocal on both ends and directed traffic for her team. Sanders’ on ball defense was terrific. She picked up at halfcourt and applied pressure. This resulted directly in offense on the other end, where she showed that she could both finish as well as dish the ball off for an assist. Sanders showed off the 3 point range on her jumper as well.
Jefferson definitely caught my eye at HYPE on Sunday. She showed the ability to control and push the pace of the game with her straight line speed with the ball in her hands. Jefferson played some very feisty perimeter defense and was able to frustrate opposing ball handlers. Offensively, she was able to get down hill with the ball and she showed off a very effective shot fake in which drove baseline and finished with a floater.

Gilroy is definitely a player to keep an eye on this coming season. She got better as the game went on, which is especially impressive for a post player. Gilroy was active on the glass on both ends of the floor. She boxed out and battled for the ball off the rim. I really liked the way she gained position when a teammate put the ball on the floor. She sealed her defender and got in position for a dump off pass.
McClain was recently very impressive at the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250, so I was very anxious to see how she played at HYPE. The reviews from Sunday were outstanding. She used her length well on defense, sliding across the lane and getting some sneaky blocks on opponents that didn’t even know she was there. McClain showed strong hands securing post feeds over the top of her defenders. She also showed off a dangerous game off the baseline, hitting a pretty turnaround jumper and a contested jumper over the defender.
The fifth player in Part 2 of the series was a player from Canton. Unfortunately I was unable to get her name, but if you see a guard wearing the number 21 in Canton red, watch out. She was one of the most impressive perimeter scorers that I saw at the event. In Canton’s first game of the morning, she ended the contest with 20 points.
