I’m about to hit several large events over the next couple of months and I will be dropping talented players from each class who may have missed the UPDATE yet they will be placed in the Watch List category so always remember to check out where I’ll be by clicking on this link
Nickerson is one of the most explosive guards in her class and her ability to not only take the defender off the dribble and score but finish strongly after contact has always been there. She’s handling the ball better under pressure and seeing the floor both in the set as well as i the open court yet her pull-up jumper and dropping it, from mid to long-range, while being defended has taken her game to another level. She does a good job defending in the set, as well as baseline to baseline
Highlights
Arinze has been one of those players that has steadily improved her game each season and let me add that she’s “long and athletic” which is, and always will be the base and she stands 2 inched shy of “the magic number” however she plays as if she is above it. The big takeaway on her game is that she’s showing signs of taking over a game, from either end and her relentlessness on the boards is part of it, so is her defense and timing. On the flip, she scores around the basket, after contact, and can drop the short jumper as well as attack off the dribble
Fox may be a sleeper as far as how high she can climb, let me put that in another way, her ceiling has no roof. She is another “long and athletic” player that is under “the magic number” which is 6’0 however you would never know. Initially she was a back to the basket player when I first saw her in action yet she has expanded her game to score multiple ways including a powerful first step to attack off the dribble, with either hand, and finish strongly after contact. She has good timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots, she rebounds on both ends and defends both in and outside the paint
Alaniz understands that the game starts at the 1 and her ability to control the tempo and get teammates involved was there a few years ago when I caught her at a camp in West Texas. I love watching her thread the needle in traffic which gets her teammates good looks, she does that in the set as well as in transition however she can score off the dribble using a deceptive first step and her body control as well as not only finishing after contact but creating contact while attacking is very nice. So is her mid to very long-range jumper
Vega was a huge surprise for me over the club season and her being moved onto the list was solidified before I caught her going off at the Girl’s TABC Showcase. She has the college ready frame to go along with standing at ‘the magic number” and watching her maneuver inside the paint to score multiple ways is nice, She has the “hands and footwork” thing down, #THROWBACK, she scores on putbacks, yes she rebounds on both ends and she can take the defender strongly off the dribble and finish after the lick. I also saw the midrange game come around but her upside is very nice
