Taking a look at my top teams in distict 1 heading into the 2024 season. With only two state tournament berths coming out of the district it will be a dog fight. Several have the talent to make it. Here's a closer look. I will be doing more of these with different levels in a series of articles. It's almost time for Hoops!   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lynden -</h2>   2023 season - 20-6 - 2nd in 1A/2A northwest league - 1st district - Lost in round of 16   KEY RRETURNERING PLAYERS -   [player_tooltip player_id='595418' first='Kalanie' last='Newcomb'] [player_tooltip player_id='584239' first='Payton' last='Mills'] [player_tooltip player_id='594667' first='Mya' last='VanderYacht'] [player_tooltip player_id='593744' first='Mallory' last='Villars'] [player_tooltip player_id='676258' first='Finley' last='Parcher']   Rundown - There is enough experience and talent here to make a deep run as one of the favorites in the post-season for class 2A. With [player_tooltip player_id='584239' first='Payton' last='Mills'] being the anchor inside and out. Newcomb, Villars, and Vanderyacht all return valuable experience on the perimeter. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='676258' first='Finley' last='Parcher'] is one of the best in the class of 2027. Still young but plenty there for a gold ball run in March.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Burlington Edison -</h2>   2023 season - 20-6 - 3rd place in Northwest 1A/2A - 2nd place finish at state tournament    Rundown - A suprise run to the 2A title game gives them lots of confidence led by 1st team all league [player_tooltip player_id='730311' first='Chesah' last='Holmes'] and 2nd team [player_tooltip player_id='660350' first='Claire' last='Bishop'].   KEY RETURNING PLAYERS -   [player_tooltip player_id='730311' first='Chesah' last='Holmes']   [player_tooltip player_id='660350' first='Claire' last='Bishop']   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Archbishop Murphy -</h2>   2023 season - 13-11 - lost in winner to state game vs Sehome.    KEY RETURNING PLAYERS -    [player_tooltip player_id='592428' first='Ava' last='Marr']   [player_tooltip player_id='515021' first='Brooke' last='Blachly']   [player_tooltip player_id='584241' first='Kayla' last='Hookfin']    Rundown - This is a team nobody wants to face come district play. The Wildcats have the best backcourt in 2A and Blachly and Marr can be game changers. Playing in the toughest regular season league in the state for 2A teams will only help prepare the Wildcats.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sehome - </h2>   2023 season - 18-6 - Lost in regional round of playoffs to Sammamish.   KEY RETURNING PLAYERS -   [player_tooltip player_id='594664' first='Madi' last='Cooper'] [player_tooltip player_id='594665' first='Emmy' last='Hart']   Rundown - Another experienced and veteran duo in the backcourt for the Mariners could carry them deep into the Post-season.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Squalicum -</h2>   2023 season - 11-12 - Eliminated by ABM in district   KEY RRETURNING PLAYERS   [player_tooltip player_id='594666' first='Makayla' last='Heaton'] [player_tooltip player_id='730339' first='Mari' last='Binning']   Rundown - Squalicum returns a talented duo in the backcourt with Heaton and Binning, both all league performers a year ago. A strong freshman class should help the Storm make a big push in post season play.
