Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Lainey Portwine has shown promise and dedication over the past two + seasons of high school ball and that is all starting to pay off. Each game it seems like Portwine gets better with the experience that she is receiving. She isn’t the tallest player but she has lengthy arms and good knowledge of when to do what, during a contest. I would say that Portwine’s best ability is availability. She does a great job of making sure that she is always ready to receive a pass or make a play when things might break down for the others around her. So far this season, Portwine is averaging decent numbers and her York High School team is sitting at 3-3 going into break. If they continue to work and their upperclassmen continue to produce, they are going to have a nice overall season in the grand scheme of things. It’ll get much hard once playoffs come around but in my opinion, they need to take it one step at a time.
Crofton High School made it to the State tournament last year but fell short before they could hoist up a trophy. A big reason for their success is Junior – Sammie Allen Sammie Allen 5’8″ | SG Crofton | 2025 State NE . Allen, a 5’8 shooting guard, was a major contributor last winter and this season she has picked up on the same note. She is making plays, scoring buckets on buckets, and leading everyone by example. This Crofton team is currently sitting at 8-0 and it doesn’t seem like they are going to slow down anytime soon. This is a group that plays fast, free, and for each other. As long as they trust in that, each contest they compete in, they are going to find themselves back at the State tournament before this season ends.
Sadie Cornell Sadie Cornell 5’5″ | PG Superior | 2025 NE should have been ranked in our Top 50 players of this 2025 Class and that is my mistake. I was not familiar enough with Cornell’s game but after receiving more film and really studying it, she can hoop on several different levels. Cornell is a lefty and she is impressive. Offensively, she can score from all three levels but doesn’t seem to settle for bad shots. If it’s not there, she will look to adapt and switch up her attack. Defensively, she has a balanced mixture of quick feet and fast hands. She usually knows what her opponent is going to want to do and because of that, she gets a lot of tips, deflections, and steals. I’m going to make it a priority to see Cornell this upcoming travel season. There are a few college I could name off the top of my head that could definitely use her talents in the near future.

Kennedy Johnson Kennedy Johnson 5’10” | SF Lincoln | 2025 State NE of Lincoln High School was someone that stood out to myself during our PGH Top 250 Showcase in Nebraska this fall. Johnson was a dominate forward, who was controlling a lot of the action happening on both sides of the floor. As for this season, Johnson has taken this talent and used it at the varsity level whenever the chance has presented itself. On a team that has some really skilled players, it’s been a tough timing seeing the floor for a good amount of their bench but Johnson is staying positive throughout it all. I think that with the motor and skill-set I’ve seen out of Johnson, she could one day play at a collegiate level but she is going to need to continue to keep working. She seems to love the game so I wouldn’t expect anything less.

Mya Montoya Mya Montoya 5’5″ | SG Lincoln Southeast | 2025 NE is a shooting guard that lives up to the name of her position. Whenever Montoya is running down the court, you can tell that she is looking for space to let it go from behind the three point line. She displays balanced form and a coordinated shot on each attempt she takes, while never rushing her attempts unless absolutely needed. Defensively, she is just a solid. A guard that can stick with other alike sized guards on every occasion and she won’t give up an inch. Montoya and her Knights team have started off this season with a 4-1 record and they are looking to keep that momentum rolling. They have all the right pieces, they just need to keep up what they are doing with a positive attitude and their success will continue.
