Continue ReadingSaniyah showed three point range with the ability to attack and finish with contact. She played good defense and rebounded well inside. She handles the ball well and has some crafty inside hand finishes.
Jemma dropped in 19 points in the win over Life Center. She has good front court size and pushes the ball after grabbing the board. She set up several times for the three so I assume she has the range, I just didn’t get to see it. She started to take advantage of players that she was quicker than and made them pay if they didn’t get help.
Kiyomi had 28 points in the loss to Catholic (VA) and probably could have had 40. There was nothing that Catholic was able to do to stop her as she brought her team back from a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter to cut the game to 1. She shot and made three pointers from near half court before defenders had a chance to guard her. When they adjusted she just blew by them.
Caliyah looked the make sure that the All-American committee and the ESPN people knew who she was as she was on fire against Friends Central (PA) with several political onlookers on the sidelines. Coach Milt gave her the green light and at one point it sounded like he said “cook her”. Whatever he actually said prompted her to drop 12 straight points before the Phoenix decided it would be best to foul her. Fouling really didn’t work either as she made her free throws at over a 90% rate.
Sidwell lost a heartbreaker to Westtown (PA), that didn’t stop Kendall from giving her all on the court. She rallied her teammates during dead ball situations and was going all out every play trying to will her team to a comeback. She scored 17 points and assisted on just as many points as she scored. She showed nice body control around the basket.
Theresa is shooting the three ball well and defensively she’s creating turnovers that turn into transition points. About four or five times a game she makes a jaw dropping play that just amazes you. As she gets stronger heading into her senior year she will be a premier player in the DMV.
Highlights
Nyla had her mid range game on lock. Her shot accuracy and elevation around 13 feet makes that shot pretty much unstoppable. She can knock down the three but inside the arc she is deadly at every spot. She proved it with her game high 32 points on Sunday.
Amira scored 14 points against Penn Charter (PA). She used her body well to create contact and finished plays with a plus one free throw. She has good ball control and never looked rushed even when pressured. She has a nice outside shot.
