Expert Analysis
Tink Butler | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Caliyah is the best point guard in the region and she shows it every time she’s on the court. The accuracy on her shot is tempting enough to want her to shoot on each possession. She is great at creating space to get her shot off and can stop and pop at any point of her dribble. She averaged around 27 points a game during the Scott Allen Showcase and that’s while playing unselfish basketball. She has one of the best mid range pullups that I’ve seen in a while and when she elevates, even when closely guarded, you expect the shot to go in.

, but she still made a big offensive impact for Good Counsel. In a low-scoring game, her shot creation as a driver was important for Good Counsel, especially early. Caliyah blew by players with her elite speed and had a lot of athletic finishes. Good Counsel was down a lot of this game, and Caliyah had a few buckets that helped them come back and take the lead.

Caliyah was the absolute best of the best when you looked at her entire body of work. She had the mid range game down to perfection and she has emerged as a three point shooting threat. She is very skilled and has an infectious attitude that helped some of the other players open up. She knocked down the game winner in the 3×3 championship and saw plays develop well before her teammates got open. She was truly deserving to be named MVP.

Caliyah Devillasee had two nice performances for Good Counsel today. She combined for 35 on 17/32 shooting and a total of 9 assists. Her mid-range was working per usual, and defenders had difficulty staying in front of her, which is no surprise. Caliyah is one of the best players in the DMV and showed that in this event.

In the first game of the day, good Counsel beat up on Pallotti. They had a massive first half, and a lot of that was because of Caliyah DeVillasee. Caliyah has always been an extremely talented scorer, but heading into her senior year, she has begun to figure everything out. She is a much more controlled basketball player, which showed against Pallotti. She finished the game with an efficient 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists.

DeVillasee has an innate ability to play point guard. After my first take seeing her, it was no surprise to find out she is the number one ranked junior in Maryland.rnShe has the ability to make all of her teammates on the floor better. She broke down multiple defenders in one possession with a MEAN crossover to get to the cup and finish. More often than score, I saw her dish the ball out to teammates before they even knew they were open. High level player!

Caliyah is in a position to write her own box score. It is going to be interesting to see her up against those other point guards that are just as hungry. The Falcons have a solid lineup but the depth is in question. Can she give 32 hard minutes on Tuesday and comeback Friday for 32 more with the same energy? If that answer is yes and she can lock up the other contenders somewhat then throw her in the hat of contenders.
