Therefore, we are going to go back and recap some of the best players from the first half of our season. In this specific article, we will be covering five prospects that are leaders throughout the state in shooting percentages from all over the floor. Whether it be from behind the arc or anywhere in general, these five individuals have been putting the ball in the basket at an impressive rate to start off this 2023-2024 season.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Isabelle Elliot Isabelle Elliot 6’1″ | PF Sumner-Fredericksburg | 2024 State IA has been the #1 shot maker throughout the state this season so far going into break. Elliot is a player with post presence. She is currently shooting 73.5% from the field and really killing it for her Cougars team. To start their season, the Cougars are sitting at 5-4 but they have had good showings. They are sitting at #2 in their conference at this point, being placed behind a Jessup High School team, that they only lost to by 1 to start their year. All in all, Elliot is a solid player, that doesn’t take too many shots that aren’t in her wheel house. She makes good choices and she makes the safe play most of the time, usually resulting in a positive outcome for herself or a fellow teammate. This is Elliot’s last go around for high school ball and I would say, she is making the most of it.
Another player that has been putting up great numbers in her first few contests this season is Paytn Harter Paytn Harter 6’0″ | SF Atlantic | 2025 State IA of Atlantic High School. Harter is a post player, that doesn’t tend to spread the floor too much because of her dominance in the paint. I would describe Harter’s game as efficient, physical, and thorough. She plays with emotion on her sleeve and keeps it simple whenever she can. There aren’t many situations where I have seen her sped up or out of control but more-so, calculated. We are only a handful of games into this season so far but at this point, Harter is doing well in all accounts. She is scoring at a nice rate and doing it at a 67% clip. If this production continues throughout the rest of the year, she is going to be one of the most efficient players on the hardwood throughout Iowa this season.
Ava Carlson
Ava Carlson
Ava Carlson and Norwalk High School are opening eye’s and making waves so far this season. Throughout their first 11 games, the Warriors are 9-2 and holding their own against some of the best competition in the state. Carlson, a 5’8 Combo Forward, has been efficient and consistent in her play this season from the floor. She is averaging 9.6 PPG on 67% shooting, along with grabbing a team leading 6.8 RPG. Carlson is someone where you know what you are going to get. A player that consistently works hard, doesn’t take plays off on either side of the floor, and because of that, she is ranking in the Top 10 in the state throughout all grade-levels in shooting efficiency. The future is bright for both Carlson and Norwalk in this case. If they keep doing, exactly what they have been, then their success will continue throughout the rest of the season.
Sioux City East is a team that has talent at all positions. One of their best comes in the form of Hudsyn Ranschau Hudsyn Ranschau 5’8″ | SG Sioux City East | 2026 State IA . Ranschau plays the shooting guard position and is putting up some great numbers to begin this season. In her first six games, she is shooting 50% from behind the three point line and 56% overall. Ranschau has always been a lights out shooter. She makes the most of her opportunities and that is going to continue moving forward. Ranschau is a collegiate level guard and it’s not just because of this shooting ability. I think this ability is going to open up a lot of doors for her but in the end, it’s everything else paired along with this shooting ability that is going to keep her on a college floor. As for the current moment, she is going to continue with her consistent play and help her team win some important games the rest of the season.
Highlights
Brynlie Hadenfeldt is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court and that has been obvious from the start of her Freshman season. Hadenfeldt is versatile. She has solid size and athleticism but she is also agile in all of her movements. She can dominant inside the lane or she can spread the floor and attack from the outside, either shooting the ball from behind the arc or attacking her defender off of the dribble. To start this season, Hadenfeldt is playing how you’d expect. She is shooting 50% from three, 44% from the field, and helping her team in almost every other aspect that you can think of. This Prairie team has players. They have personal that can do some things at a productive rate, they just need to continue to get better and grow as a group. If they can do that, they will have a chance to see the State floor in some capacity this winter or in the near future.
