UNC commit Lanie Grant Lanie Grant 5'9" | PG James River HS | 2024 State VA had the performance of the week, scoring 43 points leading her team to a win against a talented Manchester squad. Georgia signee Mia Woolfolk Mia Woolfolk 6'2" | PF Manchester HS | 2024 State VA was big for Manchester with an easy 22 points before some questionable calls took her out of the game in the fourth quarter. There is a lot of talent in the State this year, each week we will be covering various games and players. As always, if there are players we need to get out and see please let us know.
Great start to the season for the senior point guard. Improved 3 point shot to add to her aggressive driving game. She has elite quickness and speed, this year she is more controlled and finishes through contact. Defensively, she is disciplined applies constant pressure without fouling and Deep Run guards had a very hard time getting into their offense. I believe she is one of the more under the radar guards in the area and look for her to have a big senior season.
Versatile, athletic wing with size and length on the perimeter at 5’11. Exploded for 27 points against St. Gertrude. Kiyah was scoring every way possible and has great rhythm on her jump shot. Had a great stretch in the 3rd quarter, knocked down a couple 3’s and jumped the passing lane for easy steals that led to transition buckets and had a nice post up.
Ava is off to a great start at her new school. She has always been a force in the paint on the defensive end, but this year she is showing her ability to be a force on offense. She had a great game against Paul VI. Scored most of her points in the paint, actively hunting rebounds and finishing around the basket. She clogged the middle defensively, altering shots and limiting PVI’s second chance opportunities.
Exciting player to watch, after a slow start in the first half she took over the game in the second half and led her team from a 12 point deficit to a 5 point win. Amari is a crafty finisher and utilizes her long, slim frame to get past defenders and finish around defenders. She increased her defensive intensity which led to turnovers, transition layups and knocked down midrange and the 3 ball. Only a sophomore, in a big game with a lot of talent her leadership and confidence down the stretch was beyond her years.
Highlights
Confident lead guard, controls tempo of game and reads defenses well. She is a scoring point guard that looks for her shots within the flow of the game while also getting her teammates involved. Had an efficient 23-point night in a win against Glen Allen. Attacks hard downhill and has great body control in the lane making several nice high arching floaters combined with her smooth stroke from outside.
