Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Kiley Calvert Kiley Calvert 5’9″ | SG Ballard | 2024 IA of Ballard High School is an underrated prospect throughout the state. Calvert is a leader, creator, distributor, and great teammate. From a coaching perspective, those are four things you love to see out of any of your players, especially your starting Senior. Calvert isn’t alone on her Bombers team. They also have a real presence in the lane that Calvert loves to dirsrubte to both off of the catch or dribble. I think that Calvert could go out and compete at the D3 collegiate level one day if someone gives her the right opportunity. She has a good head on her shoulders and vision with the ball. Throughout her teams first 9 games she has recorded 53 assists and counting. One of the best numbers in the state regardless of class.
This next player isn’t on a varsity roster this season but she is such a good creator and passer, I had to include her. The individual that I am talking about is Malaina Hackley Malaina Hackley 4’9″ | PG Roosevelt | 2026 State IA of Ankeny. Hackley only stands at 5’0, so her dribble and passing ability needs to be spot on or else longer defenders will tip the ball. In the events that I saw Hackley perform in prior to this season, she was tearing up her opponent off of the dribble, usually ending the play with a nasty bounce pass to an open teammate on the other side of the floor. Hackley won’t get a chance till next season is what it’s looking like but let me tell you, she is one of the best passers in the entire state, no questions asked.

The Newell-Fonda Mustangs aren’t a stranger to success. Over the past handful of seasons, this team and moreso program, has been dominant on a number of different levels in their 2A class. One of the major reasons for their success is due to the players they have on roster, players like McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5’4″ | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA . Sievers has been a constant on this team for years because of her ability to create and distribute. To begin her Senior season, Sievers is sitting with a 2.65 Assist-To-Turnover ratio, giving her one of the best ratios throughout the entire state. If you have been following girls high school basketball in Iowa the past few years, you know all about Sievers game. She is a college level guard, that is going to continue to produce at this rate until this season comes to an end.
Journey Houston Journey Houston 5’11” | CG Davenport North | 2025 State IA of the Davenport North Wildcats is legit. The future Iowa Hawkeye’s commit, is someone that has been producing in every category, thoroughly the past few years. Houston plays the combo guard/small position on the high school floor and she has been helping her team kill it this year. To start the season, the Wildcats took their team out of state to Minnesota to kick things off. They ended their trip 0-2 and started their season the same way but since, they have been undefeated and fantastic. A big reason for that being the play of their star upperclassmen. When you go to watch Houston play on any given night, you know what you are going to get. A sensational player, that is going to be able to help her home state Hawkeyes in the next few years. She is consistent, physically, and works smarter rather then harder. If she can keep that up, she is going to be name we continue to hear over the next few years in this state.

Another player on that Ankeny team that I mentioned above, that starts for their varsity squad this season is Karson Jacks. Jacks is a point guard that has put up some major stat lines this winter. This team is headed by star Jayla Williams Jayla Williams 5’10” | CG Ankeny | 2026 State IA but because of how good she has been playing, teams are starting to double and triple team her so therefore, someone else needs to step up and that player has been Jacks. Throughout Ankeny’s first 10 games this winter, Jacks is averaging 4.7 APG and helping lead her team to some impressive wins. This Ankeny group is the type to be able to make a meaningful run once the playoffs begin. Some may call them a “dark horse” type team but I think that they have really good talent, that matches up to most. If they continue to click at the right time, everyone better keep an eye out.
