One of the top 2025 prospects in the state Brooke Nichelson Brooke Nichelson 5’10” | CG North Laurel | 2025 State KY put on a show in week 2 of the high school season. In a matchup against Martin County she went off for 42 points going 15 for 23 from the field. She also shot the lights out from three making 9 out of 12 of her 3-point attempts. Nichelson set the record for most points scored and most made 3’s in a WYMT Mountain Classic game. She is now averaging 26.3ppg through 5 games and North Laurel is 4-1 on the season.
Abbigail Beard Abbigail Beard 5’7″ | PG Berea | 2024 State KY is having a strong senior season so far. In a hard-fought game against Frankfort, she went off for a career-high 30 points along with 4 steals, leading her team to victory 47-39. The Lady Pirates are 3-3 on the season.
Megan Simpson Megan Simpson 6’1″ | C Nelson County | 2026 State KY had a double-double performance in the 3rd game of the season against LaRue County. She put up a team-high 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, helping Nelson County get the big win 66-29. The Lady Cards are 1-3 on the season.
Highlights
The Central Michigan commit Ayanna-Sarai Darrington Ayanna-Sarai Darrington 6’2″ | C Frederick Douglass | 2024 State KY found her groove in week 2 of the season. She dropped 22 points along with 6 rebounds in a blowout victory against Sayre 95-20. The Lady Broncos improve to 2-1 on the season.
Highlights
Junior guard Claire Roberts Claire Roberts 5’8″ | CG Lexington Christian Academy | 2025 State KY put on a 3-point shooting clinic, scoring 17 points going 5/10 from long distance in a tough road loss to Tates Creek 44-52. LCA is now 4-1 and will play a red-hot 5-0 Paul Laurence Dunbar team at home tomorrow.

The German foreign exchange student Mia Zinz is really starting to come into her own and looks very comfortable on the court. She had a great game against Holy Cross(Louisville) putting up a 12 point and 12 rebound double-double, leading the Lady Eagles to victory 65-32.
