That may be because they don’t play AAU, are young, or any other reasons. I’ll talk about guards first, then close out with wings.
Tessa Bryan Tessa Bryan 5'8" | PG Waunakee | 2027 State WI
Bryan is a little unpredictable in the best and worst ways. She’ll make a play that makes you shake your head and wonder what she was thinking, but for every one of those plays, she makes four plays that leave you wondering how she did that. Bryan made a defensive play against Oostburg when they were chasing the game, where the guard stopped transition on the right side of the floor and found her assignment in the opposite corner, then picked off a pass intended for a kid on the wing 20 feet from her, and looked like she got shot of a cannon to get it. Her athleticism alone will wow you, and there’s still plenty of physical and mental development left for her because she’s a freshman. The sky is the limit for her.
The Sun Prairie East guard has had an up-and-down start to her high school career, which most newcomers have. What makes her so fun to watch is that she can score the ball from anywhere. She has a natural ability to put the ball in the basket. The Cardinals have traditionally played slower than most teams, even when they had some outstanding athletes. Regardless, Vogler has some magic to her game and will put the ball in the basket at a rate few others can match when she’s at her best.
Devin Larson Devin Larson 5'6" | PG Hudson | 2027 WI
A name that people from the eastern part of the state may not know yet is Hudson native Devin Larson Devin Larson 5'6" | PG Hudson | 2027 WI . Kids who play as hard as she does with and without the ball are some of my favorite kids to watch play. She’s as fast as any newcomer with the ball in her hands, and I don’t know any other lead guard who moves better without the ball on offense than Larson. She’ll be one of the best lead guards in the Big Rivers Conference this season and continue to perform as one of the best in the conference over the next few seasons.
Kacy Eggebrecht
On average, Eggebrecht has been on triple-double watch. The senior guard has done everything for Phillips this season and has led her Loggers team to some convincing wins early on against talented small schools like Athens. Kids who do a little of everything get overlooked for many reasons. Since her older sister graduated, Kacy has stepped up in a big way for the Loggers and kept them around the top of the Marawood-North. She’s a kid who doesn’t get highlighted much, but she can play at a high level.
