I’ve had the chance to see Lindsey Davis Lindsey Davis 5’8″ | SG Nodaway Valley | 2024 State IA compete the past three seasons but this one was the most important for me. In my eyes, she needed to be productive every single contest, showing me that she will always show up and that’s what she has done up until this point. For the Nodaway Valley Wolverines this winter, Davis has been vital. She is making big plays and having some of her best nights when it matters the most. In this Update, Davis moves into the Top 10 for this Senior Class. She has been too productive and consistent, all while playing at a high rate this winter for her not to jump up a few spots. She has proven countless times that she is a true hooper and someone that a coach can put their trust into in clutch time. Can’t really ask for much more then that.

Alex Flattery is having an underrated Senior season this winter for her Sioux City East team. Flattery is a college committed player, that has the ability to step up and into any position needed on the high school floor. Offensively, she can handle and attack in a number of ways. If the defense tries to over help, she is pretty good at finding an open teammate. Defensively, she is physical. She makes smart plays and is not afraid to mix it up with anyone else bigger near the rim. On a team that debatably has three future D1 players, to stand out each night is impressive. If she can keep this up and all of those said players step up, this team is going to be tough to stop when it comes to the Playoff’s in a few weeks.

I’ve been in attendance for some high profile games this winter, all across the Midwest and one of the best PG’s i’ve seen in action is Liberty’s, Isabella Tafolla Isabella Tafolla 5’7″ | PG Iowa City Liberty | 2024 State IA . Tofolla is a quick and efficient Guard, that is very good when she stays in control of her own pace. The best Point Guards out there have the ability to lead their team in pace-of-play and direction, without scoring throughout a contest. They lead by example from the front by their words and more-so their actions. This perfectly describes Tofolla and how she has been playing this winter except she has been scoring at an efficient rate as well. In this Update, she moves up 5 spots into the Top 50. There is still one more Update to follow this one and I’m sure that Tofolla is going to give her case as to why she should continue to rise up these rankings. If she can have a successful end to her regular season, while leading her team to some playoff wins, she will be on the right track.

Sophia Hope Sophia Hope 6’0″ | PF Waukee | 2024 State IA is committed to attend D2-Truman State next season but right now, she has been putting together a memorable Senior season. Hope has good size and is pretty athletic. She is a Small Forward, that is very good in small windows or tight situations. Most of the time, she makes a good choice with the ball in her hands and that usually leads to an easy look for herself or a teammate. Defensively, she is just as good, if not better. She makes calculated decisions while demonstrating active hands and feet. If an opponent doesn’t show their determination early on in a ball game, Hope knows that she has the advantage. People say that the game of basketball is 90% mental and Hope excels in that category. I’m excited to see where the Warriors and Hope can take this come Playoff time. They have surprised a lot of people this regular season but we will just have to see how it goes when their season is on the line.
We have heard about the Johnston Dragons and their stars this season but someone that has been a dedicated role-player for this program over the past three years is Guard, Isabel Balsley Isabel Balsley 5’5″ | PG Johnston | 2024 State IA . Balsley is someone that is willing to go into the game and play the role given to her in their system. I’ve had the chance to see Balsley a few times and I’ve confident in saying that she would start in a lot of other programs across the state. She is a prospect with athleticism and endurance. Which makes sense as she is also a star on the soccer pitch. This Dragons team is going to be favorite to win their 5A Class come Playoff time and every person on their Varsity roster is going to have a role to play if they want to bring home some hardware, especially Balsley coming off of the bench in relief. Her minutes are crucial and going to be a big piece to her teams success over this next few weeks.
