In this article we are going to highlight some individuals that have been flat-out difference makers for their teams on the Varsity floor this season, helping in anyway that they possibly can.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
The North Polk Comets are 14-2 in their first 16 games this season and a main contributor for them has been Junior SG, Greta Dillinger Greta Dillinger 5’10” | SG North Polk | 2025 State IA . Dillinger lives up to her positions name as a shooter. She is a player that is very good at letting it fly from deep off of a balance and coordinated stance. She possesses the ability to get to other levels on the floor offensively off of the dribble if need be but her best talent is definitely shooting the ball. The way that she lines up her body and has her hands ready at any moment, screams that she can knock down some shots and that’s what she has been doing this winter. She may have only moved up a spot or two in this Update but she is having a great year both individually and from a team aspect. She already has taken a handful of visits prior to the season to compete with someone after her high school career but nothing has been locked in as of yet. If she continues to ball out like she has been this season, I’m sure she is going to have a few more offers before she makes her final decision.

Morgan Mann Morgan Mann 5’7″ | SG Humboldt | 2025 State IA is another player that I would consider offensively gifted. She is a someone that can score from all three levels in a plethora of ways or she can create off of the dribble for her teammates. Defensively she is good with her on-ball defense, as well as being active on help side whenever the situations calls for it. Mann has been her team’s engine the past 2.5 seasons at the varsity level and that’s going to continue until she graduates. This is the type of team that everyone understands their roles to a T. Everyone works hard and understands that Mann’s skill-set is truly next level. As long as she is having a good game, this group has a chance to win. I’m unsure of where Mann is going to end up playing at but wherever it is, they are getting a baller, who can make a difference in more way than one.

In the few times that I have had a chance to see Ashlyn Davis Ashlyn Davis 6’0″ | SF Westwood | 2025 State IA play live, she was everything you would imagine. She was working hard in mid-post area, she was dominating the paint on either block, she was out-rebounding most others, and she was consistent on both sides of the floor. This type of play is exactly what Davis has been doing this winter for her Westwood Rebels team, helping lead them to a current record of 14-0 to kick off this 2023-2024 season. I’m not sure who or what team is going to be able to stop this group this winter but whoever it is, hats off to them. This Rebels team has shown time and time again that they are the real deal, with no one being as important to their success as Davis. We may be a few weeks away but I hope I can catch this team at the State Tournament. If they can get there, they could take it all the way.
When I was scouting this Class and I came across Paige Schmitt Paige Schmitt 5’11” | CG Algona | 2025 State IA , I was surprised that I had never seen her compete before. Schmitt is a player that has that perfection combination of height and athleticism. The best way to describe her play-style would be team leader. This is an individual that is not going to kill you in the scoring department but in almost every other category. She is very good at creating off of the dribble and finding open teammates around the paint, while knowing when she should either pass or go up with a shot attempt. There are 3-4 players on this team with some real promise to continue on their careers to the next level at this point and you could debate that Schmitt is their best. Like I said, she isn’t going to score 30-40 points a contest but she is going to make sure that everyone else around her eats at a consistent rate. Something that college recruiters love to see from an outside perspective. If she can continue to keep this up, her Bulldogs team is going to be very hard to beat come Playoff time in their perspective Class.
Speaking about game-mangers or high level producers and we can’t leave out Emilie Sorensen Emilie Sorensen 5’9″ | SG Waukee | 2025 State IA of Waukee High School. Sorensen is a D1 commit and she has been leading from the front this winter to help out her team. There are a bunch of different things that Sorensen does well on the floor but this season, she has been the best as one of her team’s “it” factors. In some of their most important games, Sorensen shows up and she shows up big. Score, rebounding, defending, you name it. The bottom line is that she shows up. Don’t get me wrong, basketball is obviously a team sport but without the play of Sorensen, this group would be in a different situation right now. All in all, the Warriors are a team to beat in their Class and they have proven that this season against some of the best competition throughout the state. If someone gets matched up against this group and doesn’t prepare properly, it’s going to be a long night. They have too many good players that they can kill you in a number of different ways.
