Ella Mahaffey Ella Mahaffey 5’8″ | SF Riverside | 2024 State VA had another outstanding week this week. On Monday, in a losing effort against Briar Woods, she hit four threes and finished with 29 points. She creates so much offense for herself, and I love the way Ella creates space to get her shots off. She also hit the 1000-point mark for her career in this game. Then, on Friday, Ella put in 21 in an 18-point victory over Potomac Falls. Ella had an outstanding week and added to what has already been a terrific senior season for her so far.
The Monday Riverside Vs. Briar game had a lot of offense, so I could have listed many players from that game that stood out. But what Hope Drake Hope Drake 5’11” | SF Briar Woods | 2024 State VA did that night and what she did later in the week made me compelled to talk about her performance. Against Riverside, Drake knocked down three threes and did what she wanted as a scorer all over the court. She had a great day on the offensive glass and did a lot work inside the paint, punishing smaller Riverside players. She finished that game with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Then, on Thursday, she had a very good complete game. She finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds, and I thought she did a great job as a passer in this game. She showed her full arsenal this week, and she was impressive.
Highlights
Robinson is 13-1 this season, and they look as good as any public school in NOVA. Their defense is stifling, and they’ve only given up 40 points once. Junior Forward Georgia Simonsen Georgia Simonsen 6’0″ | SF Robinson Seconday School | 2025 State VA has been a massive reason for their 13-1 start, and she might have had her best week this week. On Monday, Georgia had a monster 21 point and 23 rebound game in a 4-point win over South County. Then on Friday, she had 15 in a 19-point win over West Springfield. Georgia’s rebounding and defense have been outstanding at the start of this season, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. But what Georiga has been able to do as a scorer this year has been exceptional. Robinson plays a slower style of basketball, and these games are pretty low-scoring, so for her to routinely get 20 points is special.
From what I’ve seen from Sravya Janapati Sravya Janapati 5’8″ | SG Stone Bridge HS | 2026 State VA over the past year, she is one of the best shooters in NOVA. She showed that in a win vs Lightridge on Monday. She knocked down 3 threes, finishing with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Sravya can shoot the ball effectively in a multitude of ways. She is excellent off the ball as a catch-and-shoot shooter or can create for herself. I’ve seen her use a step back a lot to get herself open and get good looks. She had a subpar game for her standards vs. Briar Woods on Thursday, but Briar geared a lot of their defense not to let her get good looks.
South County played two great defensive teams this week in Robinson and Gainesville. Laila Tull Laila Tull 5’8″ | CG South County | 2026 State VA still had a very good week. She knocked down a handful of threes against Robinson and played a big part in that game being as competitive as it was. Then, in what may have been one of the best wins of the week, Laila had a game-high 17 points. South County also finished the week by blowing out Alexandria City on Thursday.
