Clubs have been jockeying for position in the standings, trying to get that better seed or even host a home play-in game. Talent around the state has been crazy good. We have seen kids come from nowhere to make a name for themselves. As I mentioned before, every game matters especially if you have aspirations of moving on and extending your season.
All throughout the state, we’ve seen girls bounce onto the scene. However, there have been those consistent hoopers that bring their lunch pail night in and night out. These girls excel in their roles and bring energy and tons of value to their prospective ball clubs. As we get closer to the end of the season mark, check out some West Tennessee hoopers who are filling up the statistical columns in more ways than one.
Carlyn Burdette Carlyn Burdette 6'1" | PF Collierville | 2024 State TN (6’1/Sr./F./ Collierville)– She reached the 1,000 pt mark recently and she isn’t stopping. She has her eyes set on a bigger team goal, however Carlyn just comes in and competes every night. She does all the little things so well. Box out rebounding, setting screens, knowing when and where to pass out of a double team. Obviously, she is money from the field where she can beat you down around the blocks and also along the arc. Her presence on the floor adds so much value to the Collierville program. When she is on, she’s on. She plays with a lot of confidence and is a selfless player willing to do whatever it takes to win a ball game.
Tristan Spearman Tristan Spearman 5'4" | PG Memphis East | 2024 State TN (5’2/Sr./PG/ Memphis East)- Don’t let the size fool you, she plays the game with heart and a lot of passion. She can squeeze between games to get paint touches, unleash it from the arc, but I love her ability to lock up on D. She prides herself on that end, making it a long night for opponents. She recently dropped 41 points in a win over Whitehaven. Size doesn’t matter? Don’t tell her that. T is a shifty guard who just gets it done. Her stock will continue to rise but note that whenever she laces up her kicks, it’s a wrap because she is there to take over.
Lilly Teague Lilly Teague 5'7" | SG University School of Jackson | 2027 TN (5’7/Fr./PG/ USJ)- Dual sport athlete whose stock continues to rise not only in basketball but soccer as well. Basketball wise, she has jumped onto the scene and played with tremendous confidence. Every night, she’s competing , getting after it, making it tough for opponents. From defending to scoring, she is doing her part to help propel the Lady Bruins. Her ability to lead and rally the troops, enables her club to get behind her. You can tell her coaches trust her as she makes the right plays on the offensive end within the offense. She’s a heady floor general and seeing her work is truly amazing. Look for her to continue to get better and stay on this upwards trajectory.
Jaidynn Askins Jaidynn Askins 6'0" | SF Jackson Southside | 2025 State TN (6’0/Jr./ F/ Jackson Southside)– The basketball queen! Talk about a passionate hooper, she gets after it. She just goes to work. Doesn’t matter how, who, what, when, where, why, Jaidynn just gets it done. From the field, she is money. From the paint, money. Lock up on D, she got it. Rebounding, got that too. Dang near double double on a nightly basis. Like I said, it doesn’t matter how, just know she is there to compete and get it done. The kid is solid. Won a ship, wants another one. Look for her to continue to ascend and reach new heights. The journey isn’t over and she wants more while she continues to get better.
Jariya Rankins (5’7/Sr./PG/ Center Hill)– Taking this senior year by storm. She is determined to leave her mark on this season and go out with a bang. Jariya has been on a scoring tear and it has helped propel her Center Hill ball club. She attacks the hoop like it’s nobody’s business, challenging defenders along the way. She sits down and locks up on D, making it hard for opponents to operate. She brings the juice and her club feeds off her energy. The kid is playing with tremendous confidence and she looks to help the Lady Mustangs reach new heights in postseason contention.
