Now that the IHSAA State Tournament has concluded, travel teams are starting up practices. Several programs will eye the annual Shamrock Classic as a starting point to their season, while others will host their own individual showcases, jamborees, etc., showcasing the different teams in their programs. Either way, as crazy as it sounds, the grassroots season is already here. Below is a look at five ladies who we feel could have a breakout Spring and really improve their stock with their play.

– Abigayle has always struck me as an intriguing college prospect because of her combination of size, length, mobility, plus skill. She’s a nice all-around athlete, a hard worker, but she has also shown the ability in the past to be able to battle inside defensively and on the boards, knock down the mid-post jumper, and even step out to the 3-point line and play with confidence/consistency, whether she’s passing/screening or hitting an open shot.

– Rielyn finished the 2023-2024 season extremely strong, and she should be able to take that quality play straight into the Spring and really turn it on in the open floor. She has grown a little, gotten stronger and is able to absorb contact better, plus she has even been a little feistier at times. If she can prove she can both (a) run a team, and (b) make open shots consistently, she should have her share of elite small college suitors in no time.

– Kylie returned healthy this year after struggling through an injury last season/Summer. As she returns to 100%, look for her to really step it up this Spring. She is sort of a power wing with touch. She is a nice North/South athlete who likes to get downhill and attack the basket, but she can also knock down a rhythm jumper outside. As long as she lets the game come to her and doesn’t try to make up for lost time, she should have a strong Spring.

, 2025, 5-7 CG, Greensburg H.S.
– Mylie is another player who has dealt with the injury bug over the last couple of seasons, missing her Sophomore year and a few games this season. When she’s healthy, which she finally is, she is a dynamic athlete who can play at different speeds, score at different levels, and defend with the best of them. She has length, speed & quickness, plus an explosive first step. Look for her to make a ton of plays in the open floor this grassroots season.

– Layla really started to figure some things out last June & July, and she carried that over to the 2023-2024 season at times. She is still a little inconsistent, but her moments that showcase her potential really stand out. She has length, a wiry strength to her frame, plus she can run the floor North/South with some pace. She has decent hands, improving footwork, and some touch to about 15-feet. I think her recruiting could take off this Spring.
